Going through a bad break up and asked to see friend but she was busy that night and invited me to go with her to London the following weekend to visit a mutual friend.

I asked her about train tickets and at the end of the week she bought and paid for us both.

The night before my grandma died and so I didn't go. Now a month later and friend is chasing up the money for the train ticket. I don't think I should have to pay, aibu?

Yes, YABU. Your friend is out of pocket. Of course you should pay.

divadee Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:11

Yes you are. Why should your friend be out of pocket cos you couldn't go. Yes it's a distressing event but that's not your friends problem.

Mayhemmumma Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:13

She should of let it go but as she's asked you need to pay I think.

BenLui Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:32

I'm very sorry about your Grandmother but why would you not pay?

Snap8TheCat Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:36

Reverse?

PinkHeart5911 Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:39

Well I think you should pay as she booked on your behalf.

Your friend is out of pocket so of course you would pay her back, why would you think it's ok not too?

PigletWasPoohsFriend Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:39

Sorry about your GM but yes I do think you should pay.

ChickenBhuna Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:49

Which is more important to you? A few quid or a friendship.

glenthebattleostrich Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:51

Yes, I think you do need to pay. Sorry for your loss

Lj8893 Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:55

Of course you should pay.

It's very sad that your grandma died but that's not your friends fault, you still owe her for the tickets even if you didn't use them.

feathermucker Thu 17-Aug-17 18:59:55

I'm sorry for your loss flowers

However, it isn't your friend's fault that you didn't go. She bought the tickets and you owe her the money.

FoxesSitOnBoxes Thu 17-Aug-17 19:00:02

Yes! Of course you should pay her back.

DevonLulu Thu 17-Aug-17 19:00:24

Sorry. YABU. You need to pay

Lavabravacava Thu 17-Aug-17 19:00:25

You owe your friend the money.

If you were my friend, and you had suffered a losss I wouldn't ask for the money back BUT I'm not broke. Maybe she is. Essentially you owe her the money.

PlaymobilPirate Thu 17-Aug-17 19:00:36

Of course you need to pay her back.

What makes you think you shouldn't?

InfiniteCurve Thu 17-Aug-17 19:00:36

You should pay ,why would you think you shouldn't? It sounds as if you are having a difficult time ,but there is no reason why your friend should be out of pocket.

StickThatInYourPipe Thu 17-Aug-17 19:01:23

Why wouldn't you pay?

PaintingByNumbers Thu 17-Aug-17 19:01:44

Honestly, its surprising your friend has asked, but as she has, I guess she either needs the money or is a shitty friend, either way, you should pay up.

Trudij123 Thu 17-Aug-17 19:01:50

I'm fairly astonished you've left it a month and don't think you are unreasonable! Of course you should pay her back!!

SweetLuck Thu 17-Aug-17 19:02:14

Yes, you should pay.

AlmostAJillSandwich Thu 17-Aug-17 19:02:21

If the agreement before she bought the ticket was you would pay her for it, yes you are.
Just because you were unable to go doesnt mean you get to not pay for it, she cant get the money back its not fair shes out of pocket.

MadMags Thu 17-Aug-17 19:02:25

Is this a reverse??

thebear1 Thu 17-Aug-17 19:02:54

Unless there is more to this than in your post yabu.

DancingLedge Thu 17-Aug-17 19:03:02

She should have claimed for the unused ticket, then she would only have been £10 out of pocket(fee), which morally is down to you.
