AIBU?

To not move in cafe

Cafe has only 6 other people in it, loads of free tables (Just counted 11 free tables) for 2/4 people.

I am on my own sitting at the only 'sofa table' drinking tea & MNetting. I am sitting on a 2 seat sofa & have a table and another 2 seat sofa facing me.

Family with children (around 6/7) have just come in and the mother declared loudly (loud enough for me to here) how selfish it is to hog a table for 4 when a person is on their own. She is now sitting with her family at one of the free tables but keeps looking over Angry

They want me to move! AIBU to stay on the comfy sofa (for another 2 hours) and ignore the death stares?

Ignore them.

They have seats and the mother is a twat.

Stay there. She's being rude and unreasonable.

I'd wave next time she looks over at you

Silly woman, it's not like your sitting on the last available 4 seat table on your own when the cafe is busy.

You say many other tables are free so she'll have to suck up not having a sofa won't she?

You've paid for you cafe items same as she has so why shouldn't you be able to sit where you like

Tune her out

Absolutely ignore, in fact I'd stay longer as she's been so rude just to annoy her more.

Make a big show of stretching out and relaxing on the couch. When she gives you the death stares just laugh at her.

Get another pot of tea, perhaps with a nice cake. Although you'll need to make sure they don't attempt to hijack the sofas while you're up.

Definitely order another coffee, and what about a nice big slice of cake too?!

Cheeky mare, ignore her!

I think you're in the wrong.

I'm going totally against the grain here but....I agree with her.

Even though they found other seats, like you say there were other adequate tables, I always think it's a dick move when I see 1 person sitting at a table/area big enough for a larger party.

When you entered the café why didn't you sit at a two seater instead instead of taking up a table that could sit 5 or 6?

If a family came in right now and there was only enough room at the table you were sitting in, would you move to a smaller table or expect them to leave the café?

I would ask why all the other tables for 4 were unsuitable and why only the one you were sat at was the one she wanted.

And yes I would sit there for two hours, would order another coffe and take the papers if there were any and settle in. Then just as she got up to leave I would follow her out.

I am a feisty mare though and hate passive aggressive comments intended for you but not said directly to you.

I think you should stay where you are. There are plenty of empty tables and you've got the comfy seat. Lucky you. Grin

She will nick your table if you go up and get another drink.

I'd get another drink too. And cake. And do a mumsnet head-tilt smile to her the next time she looks over. Brew Cake Grin

What is it with all these cafe threads at the moment?

Not sure I would have the nerve to take overa four seater configuration all by myself!

Rhubarb - there were 11 free tables the OP said so.

This woman wanted the sofa. Of the 11 free tables the OP chose the one with the sofa and why shouldn't she? just because a Ms Entitled may walk through the door at any time?

Oh dear, I'd be settled in for the duration or at least until they leave, I don't respond well to PA comments so would be staying put as a point of principle now Blush

If she wants to sit there she should ask. No harm, I would happily move. Others won't
