AIBU?

I've just hung my washing out on the line

And the heavens have opened.

I'm not getting it in, as it can't get any wetter.

BIL is here and he's TWITCHING. He's asked us several times if we're sure we want to leave it. And keeps commenting that 'ooh it's really coming down now' and looking out at the garden.

I'm just glad he wasn't here at 7am when I got the darked on loads in...

I thought people who stressed about this kind of thing were just invented on MN. I didn't realise actual adults feel the need to rescue wet washing from the rain, or dry washing from the dark.

Aibu?

My washing has been out a few days now Blush it keeps being sunny and then starts pissing it down it's only a couple of items but still.

I do t understand the logic of bringing wet washing in because it's raining. And I definitely don't understand why you wouldn't leave it overnight, no way am I going out in the dark to get it in.

Leave it out. As you say, it's already wet so why get yourself wet as well?

I agree Norma but I,m a slattern

I suggested a few summers ago that the best way to do the washing is cover it in soap suds and hand it out to rinse, then bring it in to dry. I didn't get many takers. Grin

I feel sorry for hung up washing in the dark. Who knows what terrors they must endure whilst being pegged down unable to move.. :(
As for rain, if it's warm, that's fine but it seems a bit heartless if its cold out there..

You could do the whole cycle in my garden it's wet then windy and then bright sunshine and the it starts again.

I bring mine in tbh. Although I knew it was going too rain today so never hung anything out. Brought yesterday's in when it started to rain though

My washing got rained on whilst I was in town. Hopefully it will dry before the next shower (it's quite sunny at the moment).

Poured with rain on my washing earlier, I just left it and now it's pretty much dry Grin

The reall question is do you bring it in to rewash after its been rained on

Rewash? What is this strange behaviour? It's rain, not sewage!

Okay, I've been on MN a long time, but I still have no idea what washing getting "darked on" actually means! Can someone please enlighten me?

The rain isn't going to dissolve them.

I don't leave it out overnight because it often rains in the early hours where I live. I wouldn't bring wet washing in though - if it's only just gone out, it's soaking anyway, presumably.

Same here! Washed half the beach towels ready for holiday and hing them out. Put other load in ready to do when back from supermarket.
Wet ones are staying out and unwashed ones are staying unwashed for now!

I'd leave it on the line too.

I wouldn't rewash it either. The rain isn't dirty where we live.

DH got ours in. I hate it when it gets rained on.

Darked on = washing that has been left out on the dark....the dark has got on the washing

My family and DH's go utterly frantic if there is a literal drop of rain when the washing is out. It's full action stations with all hands recruited to rescue my poor washing. I'm utterly bemused by this as we live in Scotland and showers can be so fleeting. I'd rather have stuff rained on then blown dry half an hour later. Smells much fresher than laundry that has been tumbled.

If I stop them they can't cope. They really twitch. Even a dark cloud above leads to much tutting and looks cast at the laundry baskets.

youarenot it is apparently also not very MN to have beach towels I have recently discovered . One must have microfiber cloths.

Disclaimer : just brought my washing in as it is raining. Didn't want it to get wet again!
