My friend says IABU to give my kids pesto pasta AND to count it as a nutritious meal?!

I think she IBU I give pesto pasta but also broccoli/peas/carrots/green beans (whatever veg is in the fridge really).

Also they'll have proper yogurt for pudding (Greek yogurt) and some fruit too.

She said I need to do some meat for them?

But I think I've ticked off protein, carbs etc

This is a meal they get maybe once every 2 weeks.

I also make a lot of lentil curries and veg curries and they'll have them with rice or chappati and yogurt - once again no meat, they would also usually get blueberries and strawberries or raspberries for pudding.

My eldest is on the slim side - but she does eat a lot is just very active.

I think and I hope you'll say my friend is BU!! But back me up on this Mumsnetters!

Oh FGS of course your friend is being unreasonable. Very in fact as I don't believe you should eat meat everyday.

She is BU - main diet for DC should be carbs with balance of other things. Pine nuts which are in pesto are protein anyway.

That's what I said!! I said if we ate meat every fucking day then he world would be a write off! Imagine if 6 billion people ate bloody meat everyday!!

I love veg days as I call them! I love beans and lentils.

Just sends me mad.

Another inadequate meal is scrambled egg, baked beans and toast! I think that's a great meal. I use low sugar and low salt baked beans.

She also said I shouldn't cook my kids food in butter! I scramble eggs in butter. My kids are not anywhere near overweight my eldest is very slim. My youngest is on 50th centile for weight and 75th for height!

Nah, pesto pasta is practically a food group in my book. Pulled out of the bag when I am feeling unimaginative, I will chuck some bits with it most of the time...ham, cheese, peppers etc.

I'll show her this thread! We have some animated arguments she won't be offended.

By the way I do cook things from scratch and I also do convenience like pesto.

I'm a very tired mum at the moment as I've had a bad cold for a week and I just needed to do something easy.

Mac Cheese is another go to - I make the cheese sauce of course and usually give a salad of tomato and cucumber.

I just was talking about quick healthy meals and she said I don't give enough meat.

I do use fish in place of meat so I'm more likely to do salmon and veg (often using pesto to flavour the salmon or garlic butter) and then do pasta and veg or potato and veg. This meal she preferred lol

Some pesto you buy in supermarket has cashew nuts in it ... I didn't make the pesto from scratch sorry! But I bought one with pine nuts

Don't know what your friend's problem is to be honest, of course it's fine.

Her issue is i think she views a meal with no meat as no meal and also sees pesto pasta as lazy.

Oddly I've fed her kids more than she's ever fed mine

She'd have palpitations at me. Kids hadid pasta and cheese for dinner tonight! Just pasta with cheese sprinkled over it. Won't kill them, they generally have a balanced diet.

Your friend is being ridiculous. Pesto pasts with some veg once every 2 weeks is perfectly fine. My kids have vegetarian meals or days quite often!

I don't know. I do find her tiring.

But overall we do help each other

Has your friend ever heard of vegetarians?
In all seriousness I couldn't imagine criticising one of my friends about the content of the meals they cooked. Unless they were so unhealthy I was genuinely concerned for their kids health. What kind of meals does your friend make op?
