I'm sick of wearing leggings to the park and playgroups so i thought I'd look for some soft casual trousers. I find i have to keep yanking up my jeans so don't wear them.

I got a pair of harem pants and tried them on and they look a bit lile pyjamas...i feel a bit embarrassed going out in them. Btw I'm late 30s and slim so maybe I'm too old for them (although i look much younger)
Am i being silly?

No they look like pyjamas imho.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 25/07/2017 17:03

YANBU. I bought two pairs for summer, needed cool and lightweight and they are soooo comfy BUT I never wear them out of the house for fear that I look like I'm wearing pyjamas!

NC4now · 25/07/2017 17:04

Lots do look like pyjamas, especially the patterned ones. I only wear plain ones for that reason.

SwedishEdith · 25/07/2017 17:05

I think feeling like pyjamas is precisely their appeal. I don't think they look like them, particularly.

passmethewineplease · 25/07/2017 17:08

YANBU.

Yes they do. I got a pair and my friends
DC asked why I was wearing my pjs on the school run. Hmm

I'm sure you can get a pair which look less pajama like.

early30smum · 25/07/2017 17:09

I like them! But they can look a bit pyjama like.

Peachyking000 · 25/07/2017 17:13

I bought 3 pairs from Next and yes they do look like PJ's! My son pointed it out and I felt v untidy wearing them. I'm planning to keep them as "loungewear" or possibly for travelling

SunnyTunny · 25/07/2017 17:17

YANBU - they absolutely look like pyjamas...and I love them. Although I'm pretty heavily pregnant so comfort has superseded style :D

RedStripeIassie · 25/07/2017 17:17

It's how you dress them up. Cute sparkly pumps or sandles, an anklet and a strappy top with a necklace and you're ready for a night out. With your partners hoodie and food stains on them: a bit pyjamary Grin

MollyHuaCha · 25/07/2017 17:21

I love them. Can you post a pic OP?

StripySocks1 · 25/07/2017 17:27

I think it depends on the pattern, but if the rest of your outfit is quite boho, your hair is styled and you wear a statement necklace I think that would help them look less like pyjamas.

Lizzylou · 25/07/2017 17:27

I like Hush harems (no patterns) for slouchy weekends and holidays.

Nonibaloni · 25/07/2017 17:29

They do feel like pyjamas. And I love wearing pyjamas. Just go with it, after the restriction of skinny jeans my bottom has never been happier.

BadPolicy · 25/07/2017 17:33

I think it's all down to the pattern and what you wear them with. I've got a nice olive pair that looks good with a plain top and chunky jewlery, and a pair with a black swirly pattern that scream PYJAMAS, no matter what I do.

YANBU...

I only wear plain navy ones and then dress them up so they quite clearly aren't and even then, it's for super casual things like schlepping around the shops, coffee, travelling...

MsSusanStoHelit · 25/07/2017 17:49

No yanbu. They look like pjs and they feel like pjs but they are totally acceptable to go out in, at least this summer. Embrace it - something hot and horrible will be in fashion soon enough.

sonjadog · 25/07/2017 17:49

I like those! Where did you get them?

ThinkOfTheHorses · 25/07/2017 17:50

As a 22 year old the only people I know who wear hareems are gap Yah students who think they found themselves in Bali and festival girls who do class A drugs ...

MommaGee · 25/07/2017 17:51

I think the fact that everyone knows harem pants are in means people are less likely to assume Pr's so wear them but not with those awful trainers

DollyPartonsBeard · 25/07/2017 17:52

Pyjama-like qualities are a good thing for trousers to have! I have some and love them for this reason!

Be aware if you have fulsome thighs that chub rub may occur due to the low crotch or maybe that's just me

stumblymonkeyagain · 25/07/2017 17:54

All of these are good looks IMO...it's all about styling the whole outfit.

Either you've gotta go for beach chic (flip flops, sunnies, oversized summer bag, backpacker chic) or you've got to dress them up (jacket, heels)

Wear them and be comfy, so many out there just now people know its not pjs. If you went to my local shop you would actually see people in pjs and slippers lol and you wont look like any of them!

SellFridges · 25/07/2017 17:55

My kids ask why I'm wearing pyjamas every time I wear mine. I'm not overly bothered tbh!
