AIBU?

To be a bit perplexed by lady at the supermarket today

So I was at the checkout and my DS was asleep in his pushchair. I had all the shopping in the basket under the chair, was crouching down to load onto the conveyor belt. A lady comes over (walks a fair distance to the checkout I am at) to tell me that my jeans are low at the back and she can see my bottom!

They were a little low - I wear a long top with these jeans as they are too loose but obviously as I was crouching down, a little too much was on view!

It just puzzles me that she would feel so strongly about it that she would walk over to tell me. Would she have said it to a big bloke?

She may have thought she was being helpful, I know I'd rather someone tell me than allow me to go about unaware all day that my bums on show.

Maybe she was trying to be helpful? I'd like to know if my butt was accidentally on show.

Perhaps she thought she was doing you a favour, TBH if my arse was hanging out on display I'd like to be told.

With regard to Would she have said it to a big bloke? Why didn't you ask her? We cant possibly guess whether she would or not, although I'm guessing she would.

I would say she was trying to be kind. If it happened to her she would like to know kinda thing. Men don't care the same.

She was just probably trying to save your blushes. I have also flashed half my arse bending down in the supermarket. Stupid jeans!

I'd want to know if my butt and crack were showing. Why don't you?

Yeah I should have asked her. It was one of those moments where I had no idea what to say back! Think I said 'oh right'.....

I don't get why you've brought gender into this.
Would you tell some if they was flashing their arse by accident? Most people would.

I wouldn't say it to anyone!

My first sentence is in regards of would she tell a big bloke.

I think she was being nice, it's like toilet roll stuck to your shoe in a pub, your skirt tucked into your knickers or a label hanging out of your clothes, generally people tell each other things that they'd be embarrassed about themselves, obviously that's without knowing her tone etc

I would only ever tell a family member or close friend tbh.

I wasn't offended and definitely pulled my jeans up Grin

Perhaps she noticed a man looking at you and felt uneasy for you.

I wouldn't have said anything, many women don't worry if large areas of their anatomy hang out, along with strangers knowing the colour of their thong. I'd assume you didn't care, and your choice doesn't bother me.

I suspect she was trying to be helpful as well. Yes most people would snigger or look the other way, but if you're nigh on mooning in the supermarket, which it sounds like you were, then it's nice if someone tells you.Grin

Kungfu

Was just musing whether people are more willing to point out these issues to small woman or large men, or indeed anybody at all!

I think I'm going to recreate the pose to check how bad it was in the mirror!

It's a bit odd but if she just whispered it to you & didn't announce it loudly then I'd just take it as an embarrassing heads-up.

A woman once made a beeline for me in the middle of the Arndale in Manchester to tell me my fly was open. I mean I was grateful but it was extremely odd Hmm

I'd want to know!

I walked around all day last week with my jumper inside out and wished afterwards that somebody had pointed it out Blush

Better a quiet heads up from a woman than a small child loudly declaring 'MUMMY I CAN SEE THAT WOMANS BUM!'

Why would anyone say anything, if dozens of women would judge it negatively? She probably thought she was being helpful, not odd or weird or offensive. But that's how her intervention is perceived by many. So let it all hang out without comment is the easiest way. Imagine if the OP had responded aggressively instead of just thinking it odd. The poor woman would probably have no idea what she'd done wrong.

Weebo, aren't small children fab?
