AIBU?

To think this is a great business idea

A friend and I were chatting at the playground yesterday. We both have toddler DSs, born one day apart. With the onset of the less than clement weather we were discussing the lack of pleasant indoor play areas for children. This led us on to what we would like...a softplay centre that offered prosecco and cake, as well as nice coffee and perhaps stone baked pizzas. We're not suggesting that parents should come to these places to get plastered (although it might numb the pain or at least distract from the smell) but that as adults we should be able to have a pleasant time while waiting for our LOs to wear themselves out.

AIBU?

Let the trolling about irresponsible parenting commence!

The soft play we used to go to does this anyway, but you were only allowed alcohol at private parties.

Blondielongie · 22/07/2017 20:00

The soft play we go to does alcohol! And cakes and delicious food.

It's still soft play tho!!!! (Exhausting)

icelollycraving · 22/07/2017 20:01

I'd be there!

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 22/07/2017 20:06

a softplay centre that offered prosecco

TBH you might just as well get a few tins of white lightening and go over the park

OliviaBonas · 22/07/2017 20:08

There is a soft play near me that does exactly that!

SacharissaCrisplock · 22/07/2017 20:09

I'm in!

Zebrasinpyjamas · 22/07/2017 20:10

It wouldn't work for me in practice as I need to follow my dc around the soft play and I don't fancy necking prosecco in the last minute before I leave. I'd rather savour it after dc are in bed!

Myrubbershoes · 22/07/2017 20:11

I'd rather go to a soft play centre that knew what disinfectant was, and didn't lead to my child getting ill after a visit...Grin

IWantABlueBanana · 22/07/2017 20:14

Brewers fayre is the answer. Nowt like a nice pint while the kids knacker themselves

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 22/07/2017 20:19

Excellent idea - go for it

toffeeboffin · 22/07/2017 20:20

Seriously though, they exist, these soft plays that do alcohol?

WTAF has the world come to??

that I've never heard of these places

greendale17 · 22/07/2017 20:22

I agree- why on earth is there a need for alcohol at a softplay area?

Sunshinegirls · 22/07/2017 20:24

I know a place that does this, and you sign your kids into the soft play which has a couple of poor young employees in there to look after them! Blissfull

Aren't soft play's usually in units on a business park out of town where you need a car? I think it is a horrible idea and would not take my tot to a car park with boozed up yummy mummies attempting to reverse their Chelsea tractors out of parking spots
If you need to drink during the day whilst looking after your kids, you have a problem.
Most soft plays do home made cakes, nice coffee pizzas, sandwiches and jacket potatoes for mummies

Misstomrs · 22/07/2017 20:52

I love the assumption that by offering prosecco as well as cake etc that it would be an unclean place that would make children ill. I also love the suggestion that if you have any alcohol on any day when caring for your child you have a problem. Troll replies are the best. Put down your straw men ladies.

Thanks to everyone, including the trolls.

Yeah I agree with the pp...I wouldn't be keen on taking the dc to a soft play serving alcohol. When I'm out and about with the kids the last thing I'm thinking about is purpously seeking out places with alcohol.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 22/07/2017 20:58

See if a working class parent was sitting in the park playing with their kids drinking a can of cider, it would be judgement day.

But a mummy in soft play drinking prosecco is totally fine?

Anatidae · 22/07/2017 21:00

Just have some kind of whole-building autoclave that turns on at the end of the day (after the poppets have left of course.)

Decent tea and cake would be fine. Wouldn't fancy prosecco to be honest, I'm more into it not being a seething mass of germs and body fluids.

DJBaggySmalls · 22/07/2017 21:00

Child friendly pubs have beer gardens & playgrounds.

Pixie2015 · 22/07/2017 21:01

Soft play near us does lovely meals beers and alcohol - would rather drink in a relaxing child free environment so I could enjoy the bubbles - more child free nice cafes lovely coffee and cake with immaculate kids play areas are needed

Also I hate to sound like that mum but no I don't drink when in charge of the kids. It makes me woozy, I get terrible hangovers from even a sniff these days and gods, the thought of hangovers with a child that wakes at 5am just isn't fun.

Also, most soft play buildings (at least where I am) are on those big industrial estates and those are mainly accessible only by car....

Hygiene really. Get that and you've nailed it.

londonrach · 22/07/2017 21:05

Abit worried by this idea. Hope everyone travelling by bus. Drinking wnd driving huge no no from me due a death of a friend.

DesignedForLife · 22/07/2017 21:10

Why are people trolls just because they disagree with you?

I wouldn't like it personally. Most parents I know drive to soft play on their own, and personally I never drink if I'm going to drive unless it's with a big meal, but I'm probably a lightweight.
