How do you feel about posts from here appearing in the online papers with usernames etc...I know theirs some confidentiality but it makes me feel slightly awkward, it only takes one bad day or silly thing to blow up a little on here....I would be horrified and shamed if it happened to me.

I think it's a good reminder that nothing on line is private - so that's an inadvertently good thing.

I think it's lazy journalism.

I don't really care when it's shit like that thread (and I posted on it - I just mean that it's inconsequential, really). But I find it morally dubious when it is posts where people are having a hard time and are posting for support.

I think people should realise that this isn't some kind of hallowed private space when they post.
It's my usual response to the numerous threads on this.
And why give them more clicks by posting the link here?

Yeah it's defo on the lazy journalism, I think I was more surprised that they just straight up lifted comments from the posts with the usernames attached.

On MN, yes - because it's interactive. It's entertaining to post your opinion when you can directly interact with the OP.
In a way, because the OP is posting here, it feels like it has happened to 'someone I know'.
As a newspaper story, it's just absolutely dull as fuck.

I think it's a bit of a wake up call for me, I saw it more as a personal private space than I should have.

I genuinely couldn't care. I think that anyone calling it lazy journalism has missed the changing times and that reporting on a large number of people commenting on an "interesting" comment is newsworthy. Especially when online and it consts almost nothing to publish the extra story as opposed to being limited to a page count in a traditional paper.

The Daily Mail copy & paste off Mumsnet almost weekly, it's hardly surprising other papers are doing it too. Why waste time being an original and talented journalist when you can rip off other people's stories and get paid without much effort.

I agree with this. I can usually tell from the headline whether an article has been lifted from here (probably spend far too much time on mn) and I avoid clicking on them because they often don't make good news stories and I think it's an incredibly lazy form of journalism.
