AIBU?

AIBU to ask which milk your children drink?

So much conflicting advice, and I realize it's hardly a huge deal, but just wondered what kind of milk you all give your kids (full fat, semi skimmed, skimmed cows milk or other milks) and why? Also how old they are?

Full fat. He's 4y 5m and has about 2 cups a day (more with granny!).

We have stupid fear of fat in this country - sugar is what should be avoided.

He drinks only milk, water and the very occasional weak sugar-free squash.

2.5 and we only drink whole milk.

I thought the advice was whole milk is preferable until 5 unless there's weight issues?

We only buy full fat. 1yo has several bottles a day. 5yo doesn't really drink milk anymore but has a bit sometimes. Gets plenty of calcium elsewhere in his diet though!

3yo drinks whole milk and I steal it for my cereal

Full fat for the whole family. Tastes better and has higher levels of vitamins iirc.

Kids only get water or milk to drink except when we have visitors for a meal, then we have fruit juice mixed with lemonade (after compulsory glass of water first).

fully expect a flaming for my lax parenting Grin

My girls will only drink semi skimmed.
I would prefer them to have full fat but they (aged 11 and 7) don't like it. They were on full fat until DD1 was 3 (which is when she refused whole milk) and DD2 at 5.
A number of people have over the years told me I should have my kids on semi-skimmed from age 2. What a load of balls!
Full fat milk is only 4% fat, plus it has proportionately less sugar than semi skimmed or skimmed so I really don't see why people insist on putting their kids on semi skimmed or skimmed ( unless they are overweight, but I'd suggest there are more likely causes of that than a bit of 4% fat milk).

Mine have full fat - they did used to have semi skimmed (as that's what we have) but switched them back in an effort to get my DS to put a bit of weight on.
Even full fat milk is only 4% fat.

Semi skimmed here. I'd happily give have full fat but none of us like it. In any case, we only have it on cereal and in tea.

2.5yo semi-skimmed. Me and DP prefer semi, we used to buy whole for DD but after forgetting a couple of times, she preferred the semi and was drinking much more of it anyway. She absolutely loves cheese and yogurt so I'm not too worrried. I will buy whole again when DD2 turns 1.

Pre kids I always had skimmed as I thought it was "healthier" but now we all only have full fat.

Full fat for Dd2(6yrs) & Dd3(23months)

Semi-skimmed Lactofree for lactose intolerant Dd1(7yrs). But only because she doesn't like the full fat one.

Two eldest only usually want milk with their breakfast though and water the rest of the time.

My 2 year old has full fat Milk. I thought you could switch to Semi Skimmed at aged 2 but I still use full fat because she has a hip orblem and I probably stupidly think it's helping build up her bones and muscles to help her recover

Full fat. Skinny kids.

Too much sugar in the others and I believe fat is good for you.

A combination of soy, coconut, hemp, and cashew. His favourite is coconut. I try not to give him soy too much. I never give animal milk.

Semi skimmed for all although none of us have it as a drink. I use it in tea and Ds has it in cereal. Dd and dh don't really use it at all.

Coconut milk. Cow's milk is disgusting.

Full-fat, unhomogenised milk. We are lucky enough to still get it in glass bottles from an actual milkman. I genuinely believe that full fat dairy is the way to go...

My 13 yr old ds still has full fat milk on his 2 bowls of cereal a day. Never got out of the habit of buying 2 diff kinds of milk.
