So glad I don't have a DD to get like this about I can imagine it'll/is the same with DS.

Just imagining DS's first birthday and I can't stay stable without crying of bittersweet tears!

My mum use to cry at this and smile at me. I always thought she was quite the odd bodd at the time

Wait, you don't actually have a child yet?? YABU. You can't know how it feeels until you actually go through it. It sounds like you are romanticising or trying to recreate how your mum was. Just relax and let it happen. It may be just like you are picturing but it may be very different-- especially at first. It's ok either way, but try not to have such specific expectations.

I had never heard the song before I watched Mamma Mia and I was in bits by the end of it (I do have a DD). I heard it again quite recently - DD is nearly 18 and has very much grown up and away from us over the last year (as she indeed should, I want her to be a mature independent woman) - but my goodness I had tears rolling down my cheeks again. I'm looking at her now & there's a tear in my eye - I'm so proud of her and yet can still see my little baby behind the woman.

Closer...feeling emotional during pregnancy is quite a common. How is it unreasonable? Pregnancy is all about expectations..you are expecting a baby. Who doesn't think about the future and what their child will be like?

OP my dad told me that when my mum was pregnant with me, he was out at work one day and he heard "Something Inside So Strong" by Labe Siffre on the radio, and he sat and thought about what I was going to be like. He says that song reminds him of me now.

Yes that's the one, I watched with DD when she was 3 and had to leave to 'go to the loo' as I was doing some fairly embarrassing snot-crying.

I had a son earlier this year, meaning the emotions double, and watched Little Boy Blue not long after he was born. My god I was a sobbing mess

I'm one of those parents. I cried at DDs preschool stay and play day a couple of weeks ago. Luckily the teacher was lovely and she laughed at me and said "oh you're one of them!" In a nice way.
