Pregnant with DS and absolutely wailing with tears whilst listening to ABBA 'Slipping through my fingers'

So glad I don't have a DD to get like this about Sad I can imagine it'll/is the same with DS.

Just imagining DS's first birthday and I can't stay stable without crying of bittersweet tears!

My mum use to cry at this and smile at me. I always thought she was quite the odd bodd at the time Grin

Please someone tell me I need slapping down. Please someone tell me I won't be one of 'those' Mum's at the leavers assembly, one of those at baby's first day of nursery Blush

Guilty Thanks Grin

It's a really odd feeling... it's not total sadness... it's mixed with pride and... oh I just don't know! Such a complicated feeling

Tell you another one that will make you wail.

"Help Me Make it Through the Night" by Gladys Knight and the Pips. It's not about parenthood but it's so bittersweet and emotional!

Gulp.

Sorry to tell you OP but from now on you're an ocean of emotions for the rest of your life. I never used to cry at anything until I had kids. Not even Bambi. Now I cry at bloody adverts!!

Word of advice: DO NOT watch Dumbo. Baby Mine will finish you off

Wait, you don't actually have a child yet?? YABU. You can't know how it feeels until you actually go through it. It sounds like you are romanticising or trying to recreate how your mum was. Just relax and let it happen. It may be just like you are picturing but it may be very different-- especially at first. It's ok either way, but try not to have such specific expectations.

Cherry I can online briefly remember the storyline to Dumbo and the scene I vaguely remember with Dumbo's mummy rocking him to sleep through those bars...

Omg I can't even deal BlushSad

I had never heard the song before I watched Mamma Mia and I was in bits by the end of it (I do have a DD). I heard it again quite recently - DD is nearly 18 and has very much grown up and away from us over the last year (as she indeed should, I want her to be a mature independent woman) - but my goodness I had tears rolling down my cheeks again. I'm looking at her now & there's a tear in my eye - I'm so proud of her and yet can still see my little baby behind the woman.

This makes me cry every time. Even thinking about it I've got tears in my eyes. My DDs are 18 and 20, it's horribly close to the truth.

Closer Just imagining his first birthday sets me off.

My DM doesn't cry at any of my siblings birthdays or assemblies. I was her only child for many a year, it seemed quite different.

She's just full on angst now Grin

Closer...feeling emotional during pregnancy is quite a common. How is it unreasonable? Pregnancy is all about expectations..you are expecting a baby. Who doesn't think about the future and what their child will be like?

OP my dad told me that when my mum was pregnant with me, he was out at work one day and he heard "Something Inside So Strong" by Labe Siffre on the radio, and he sat and thought about what I was going to be like. He says that song reminds him of me now. Grin

Yes that's the one, I watched with DD when she was 3 and had to leave to 'go to the loo' as I was doing some fairly embarrassing snot-crying.

I had a son earlier this year, meaning the emotions double, and watched Little Boy Blue not long after he was born. My god I was a sobbing mess Sad

I'm one of those parents. I cried at DDs preschool stay and play day a couple of weeks ago. Luckily the teacher was lovely and she laughed at me and said "oh you're one of them!" In a nice way.
