AIBU?

WIBU to call in sick when I'm not sick?

I work in a nursing home and I'm due in on Wednesday.

2 patients were sick today and one had diarrhoea.

It's not definite that It's a bug yet and we won't be able to know until a few days.

It's my wedding day on Saturday.

Would I be being unreasonable to call in sick on wednesday to prevent myself any chance of catching the possible illness before my wedding day (providing I haven't caught it already)?

There's no way I'd risk my wedding day

Yanbu. I wouldn't want to risk it either. Is there any possibility of taking annual leave though instead?

Wear face masks and use buckets of soap and hand gel.

I've worked in nursing hones for over 15 years and never caught anything.

YANBU!!! Every one pulls a sickie now and again!
It's for your wedding!!! So as long as you can afford to miss a days pay just do it!

Better find yourself a sterile bubble if you are going to that extent to avoid possible germs.

Do they? I never have. It's totally unprofessional.

YABU

Do you often get diarrhoea from patients?

I was fully ready to say yabu until I saw your reason why. I would ask to use annual leave

I've never managed to avoid any D&V bug in our household despite using plenty of hand gel and maintaining good hygiene, if only it were that simple.

I would take holiday

Taking a day off "sick" a few days before your wedding is going to look suspicious surely?

Moanyoldcow · 17/07/2017 17:33

Can you swap the shift?

Too short notice to use annual leave unfortunately.
I have 2 dc, age 1 and 3, so would be a complete disaster if I brought it home and they caught it - and a complete write off for the wedding.

I maintain good hand hygeine, and use appropriate ppe. But have still caught several of the bugs during my 10 years working in nursing homes.

I never ring in sick unless I'm ill, however to me, my wedding day is important and I could really do with not catching anything.

YANBU

Don't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks. I wouldn't be risking my wedding day in that way. No chance.

Congrats on your wedding!
I think the fact that you are asking, you know it's wrong. It's really unprofessional and someone else will have to bear the brunt. Request for a day off. If not, wash your hands all.the.time! As long as you don't touch your eyes/mouth without hand washing, you'll be absolutely fine.
Have a great day on sat!

Face masks don't protect you as the viruses aren't generally airborne, neither will alcohol gel! They only work on bacteria.

YANBU I would totally pull one sickie as a one off for my wedding day.

Nobody at work will thank you or even remember you working that one day. You will remember your wedding day for the rest of your life and a sickness bug for you and DC would be a disaster.
