This happens every year since an accident I had and was left with massive scarring on my legs.

It has been hot and I have been covering my legs and getting crosser and hotter. So, today was the day I left the house with my legs out due to the purchase of some baggy denim short dungarees from the charity shop.

No comments, looks or words apart from a drunk man in the Coop who said "Sister, love your dress". DS 12 was horrified.

AIBU unreasonable to feel the love at the moment?

YANBU. Well done for getting your legs out. I have bad scarring, swelling and discolouration on my right leg from an accident this year but by fuck it's too hot for long trousers. I was crapping myself on my first day in shorts! Couldn't pull off dungarees even when I was a spritely teen so well done on that one.

I think that's wonderful. Go for it every day. Scars are signs of survival - celebrate them every day!

Good for you. I need to get some of your attitude towards my stretch marks for my holiday in a couple of weeks.

Am knocking on 50 and have finally developed a no fucks attitude for the majority of the time but, every year, its the same. I have to build up to it and in the end its just... alright. Sometimes comments are made but when its children, that is just curiousity. Adults however...

The short dungarees are very baggy and I LOVE THEM. So many useful pockets and comfortable and I LOVE THEM.

"Sister, love your dress" is making me SMILE. Bless that drunk soul!

I always find the actress Amanda Redman's attitude to her badly scarred arm so inspiring. She has never attempted to hide the scars even though the business she is in is very judgemental about women in general, let alone one who has perceived flaws. She has exactly the right attitude. Scars and deformities are nothing to be ashamed of, although I totally see why it is easier to cover up than reveal.

Good luck to you OP and your trusty dungaree shorts!

Well done OP! I had an accident earlier in te year which has left skin pigmentation issues on my legs. Went on holiday and felt sick at the thought of being in a swimming costume. Absolutely nobody gave a toss about me and my funny looking legs!

I have scars across my shoulder and arm from a horse-riding accident. I tell people I was attacked by a lion as they look like claw marks Grin

Mainly I forget they're there as I can't see them other than in a mirror if I sort of crane round. My mum asked if I was going to make sure my wedding dress covered them and I was genuinely surprised this would cross anyone's mind!

Scars are cool.

I joined quite a while ago and have been mainly lurking but had to reply to this mesg. I have quite a few scars due to accidents on my knee and surgeries on my chest, stomach, ankle & wrist and I LOVE MY SCARS!! They are not ugly in the least, they are signs that you have fought something, got through it and WON! Everyone on this thread should be proud of them too, we are all warriors :)

and Crunchymum, uncover those arms and legs and just get out there, I have terrible psoriasis too and I do and no one bats an eyelid, well apart from one older woman who told me one day i could do something about it, i just smiled and didnt answer, although i was thinking yeah and you could do something about those wrinkles love!! Grin

I was even more bold on Sunday...

A very nice hotel near us has decided to open up the outdoor pool to the public but this isn#t very well known about yet. So, off we went to the lovely hotel, in lovely grounds, with a lovely pool and I GOT MY LEGS OUT AGAIN!! Laid in the sun, splashed out a bit and just enjoyed it. Grand. DCs 11 and 12 were surprised again as I dont really take them swimming. WIN.

However, is there a total sunblock recommended by anyone?

Also, thank you for your replies and, go on, just do it! I do know easier said than done but best wishes to all.
