Aunty or Auntie

I always write Aunty but I seem to be the only person who does. Should it be Auntie? AIBU to stick to Aunty?

Either one is fine

Either, and I use both interchangeably. Probably tending to Aunty more frequently.

Aunty for me, well I actually prefer Aunt but would spell it Aunty if asked.

I have two aunts with -ie name endings, so i use Auntie for them, eg Auntie Minnie. For others I use Aunty.

  • i do not have an Auntie Minnie!

I say Auntie, but I think it's a purely optional point. It's just a diminutive form of aunt. Think "Katie" and "Katy".

I know someone who writes it as antie shudders basically writing it as they say it in their regional accent!

I use both, but Aunty for someone with an -ie name and Auntie for a -y name.

No idea why, I just don't like the repetition!

It's always been Auntie to me, never Aunty, which looks wrong IMO.

I have always used Auntie. It never occurred to me to spell it differently. However DH uses Aunty and says it never occurred to him to spell it any other way. Both are fine.

I use Aunty, both for myself and my aunties. Except for one who has always preferred to be aunt. I really hate it written down! Always think it should be Anty.

Cool, I'll stick with Aunty then. I do like Aunt but I have quite an old-fashioned name irl so I'd sound like a Dickens character if I did that.

Auntie, but merely because I prefer the way it looks.

I think both are correct but I have always automatically used Auntie, I'm not sure why though.

I think of myself as Auntie, but both are correct.

I'm and Auntie and I've always had Aunties. I think you can get more gifts with "Fabulous Auntie" on which is what I am. Smile
