I always write Aunty but I seem to be the only person who does. Should it be Auntie? AIBU to stick to Aunty?

ProudBadMum Fri 07-Jul-17 11:31:30

Either one is fine

MaidOfStars Fri 07-Jul-17 11:35:29

Either, and I use both interchangeably. Probably tending to Aunty more frequently.

ReinettePompadour Fri 07-Jul-17 11:37:12

Aunty for me, well I actually prefer Aunt but would spell it Aunty if asked.

I have two aunts with -ie name endings, so i use Auntie for them, eg Auntie Minnie. For others I use Aunty.

* i do not have an Auntie Minnie!

I was aunty but sister always puts auntie so presumed I was wrong

NataliaOsipova Fri 07-Jul-17 11:39:44

I say Auntie, but I think it's a purely optional point. It's just a diminutive form of aunt. Think "Katie" and "Katy".

PurpleChai Fri 07-Jul-17 11:39:53

I know someone who writes it as antie shudders basically writing it as they say it in their regional accent!

JeffreySadsacIsUnwell Fri 07-Jul-17 11:45:02

I use both, but Aunty for someone with an -ie name and Auntie for a -y name.

No idea why, I just don't like the repetition!

BertAndKhloe Fri 07-Jul-17 11:45:37

I use both spellings for the same people confused

MadisonAvenue Fri 07-Jul-17 11:46:09

I use Aunty.

Redglitter Fri 07-Jul-17 11:46:24

I'm an Auntie has never occurred to me to spell it any other way

Either is fine, but, we always use Aunty

IloveBanff Fri 07-Jul-17 12:38:45

It's always been Auntie to me, never Aunty, which looks wrong IMO.

Seren85 Fri 07-Jul-17 12:40:29

I have always used Auntie. It never occurred to me to spell it differently. However DH uses Aunty and says it never occurred to him to spell it any other way. Both are fine.

InDubiousBattle Fri 07-Jul-17 12:41:53

I use Aunty, both for myself and my aunties. Except for one who has always preferred to be aunt. I really hate it written down! Always think it should be Anty.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair Fri 07-Jul-17 13:32:32

Cool, I'll stick with Aunty then. I do like Aunt but I have quite an old-fashioned name irl so I'd sound like a Dickens character if I did that.

Threetoedsloth Fri 07-Jul-17 13:37:00

Auntie, but merely because I prefer the way it looks.

Whiterabbitears Fri 07-Jul-17 14:11:21

I think both are correct but I have always automatically used Auntie, I'm not sure why though.

DramaAlpaca Fri 07-Jul-17 14:12:40

I think of myself as Auntie, but both are correct.

TroysMammy Fri 07-Jul-17 14:16:47

I'm and Auntie and I've always had Aunties. I think you can get more gifts with "Fabulous Auntie" on which is what I am. smile

KoalaDownUnder Fri 07-Jul-17 14:19:38

I've always used/been Aunty.

Cornettoninja Fri 07-Jul-17 14:21:51

Both are now starting to look weird grin
