"I'll have a pint of wife beater please"

And if you do know, why is it known as such??!

Stella?

plantsitter · 29/06/2017 13:19

I would! And because it's strong so it gets you drunk and aggressive if you're that type.

SaucyJack · 29/06/2017 13:19

Stella Artois!

Nasty, classist stereotypes I s'pose.

MyfatheristheKing · 29/06/2017 13:19

It's know round here as wife beater juice! I'm not sure why though.

Fruitcocktail6 · 29/06/2017 13:20

I would know, yes.

Glastokitty · 29/06/2017 13:20

Stella and yes I would. Its been called that for at least 20 years.

Pleasemrstweedie · 29/06/2017 13:20

Yes indeedy! Stella Artois.

SerfTerf · 29/06/2017 13:20

Horrible term.

Branleuse · 29/06/2017 13:20

I wouldnt know. I thought wifebeater was either a domestic abuser, or in the case of american films, a white vest top worn by a man

PaulAnkaTheDog · 29/06/2017 13:20

Stella. What plantsitter said.

Quartz2208 · 29/06/2017 13:21

yep pint of stella again called such because its strong so its gets you drunk and aggressive

Caulkheadupnorf · 29/06/2017 13:21

Stella. I don't think it's a dated term, I'm quite young but know it. You don't hear it as much though.

If someone asked me for that, I'd think they were a vile twat TBH.

Moose23 · 29/06/2017 13:21

Stella!!! Because people drink it and get aggressive.

Silly me made the faux pas of going up to the bar and ordering it after my husband asked me to order a "wifebeater" for him. I thought it was actually called "wifebeater" - where I'm from that's a slang name for a vest top so didn't seem weird to me..

The guy at the bar couldn't believe what he was hearing and fell about laughing at me! Blush

InDubiousBattle · 29/06/2017 13:22

Yes, Stella. Strong beer.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/06/2017 13:22

Yes, Stella Artois, but I thought they had made it weaker to try and overturn it's reputation.

justkeepswimmingg · 29/06/2017 13:22

Yes, Stella. And I know because my dad used to drink it. Says it all really.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 29/06/2017 13:23

Stella. Hate the phrase though

SaucyJack · 29/06/2017 13:23

It's about half the strength of Prosecco, and 0.3% stronger than Kopparberg.

It isn't a strong lager at all.

Whathaveilost · 29/06/2017 13:23

Yeah, I would know.

Yes I would know which brand they were referring to.

SerfTerf · 29/06/2017 13:24

You don't serve Prosecco in pint glasses, though @SaucyJack

roundtable · 29/06/2017 13:25

Stella. Used to call it that at the pub I worked in.

Seemed to be (at the time) the drink of choice by men who lined to indulge in football hooliganism too.

It's a strong beer and fairly cheap I think. When consumed in vast quantities makes some people react in less than positive ways.
