AIBU?

to let DS have a McDonald's each week?

DS is a swimmer and swims with a squad that's 45 mins away. He starts training at 6:30 and comes out at 8 (pm btw) and it's very convenient for this day. He is healthy and slim and on all the other days has a good, balanced diet.

Is this seriously so bad? Shock

It's fine!!!!

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou · 29/06/2017 00:41

No, its not, but be ready for the crowd to tell you its poisonous filth and you should hang your head in shame.

chowmeinchick · 29/06/2017 00:44

It's fine.

Seren85 · 29/06/2017 00:44

If it is bad, then my Dad was the same. I swam competively from age 7 so trained multiple times per week. We also had McDonald's or a huge chippy tea on the Friday drive home. YANBU.

toffeeboffin · 29/06/2017 00:46

Fine. Do it. Enjoy.

shesthecatsmother · 29/06/2017 00:47

my mum always said "everything in moderation" so it sounds like he should get two!! WinkGrin

Very happy with the replies! I'm surprised though! I have seen a few threads on here slating McDonald's/junk food, etc. wasn't sure if I'd be considered unreasonable!

That is a high percentage of his main meals. 1/7 if anyone can turn that into a percentage for me.

Does he have a proper lunch or just a sandwich?

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 29/06/2017 00:50

Sounds like the kind of thing he'll remember really fondly when he grows up.

avamiah · 29/06/2017 00:53

No .
My 7 year old has swimming and judo on a Monday and Gymnastics on Tuesday then a hour of tap dancing on Wednesday and the McDonald's day is Thursday as she does 50 minutes of Tap followed by 50 minutes of Jazz dancing ( back to back no break )
She has been dancing since she was 4 and doing judo since she was 5 and is very sporty and competitive and looks forward to a Happy Meal with nuggets and a sprite and chips.

notangelinajolie · 29/06/2017 00:57

Well it didn't do Usain Bolt any harm.

Spartak · 29/06/2017 00:57

I used to always have fishcakes and chips from the local chippy on a Wednesday after swimming. Every week for five years or so. Used to eat it in the car on the way home. It's one of my happy childhood memories.

avamiah · 29/06/2017 01:05

Spartak,
I remember my dad bringing fish chips and mushy peas home every Friday when I was a kid.
Those were the days .

Why do you ask?

SuperBeagle · 29/06/2017 01:12

It's fine.

Mine get takeaway (typically McDonald's, but not always) once a week. I grew up the same way and am a very fit, healthy and slim adult. McDonald's is actually one of the "least offensive" of the mainstream fast food companies.

Mrsknackered · 29/06/2017 01:12

My mum did the same with us and still continues to do so with my step brothers who are 6 & 10.
Sometimes it really isn't viable to get home and make a wholesome meal and they're usually ravenous once they come out of these things!
Occasionally she'd bring Tupperware of pasta & veg/pizza to eat on the way home but usually a Friday was a McDonald's in the car.

avamiah · 29/06/2017 01:13

Scooby,
Haha.
Excactly.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/06/2017 01:20

YANBU. McDonalds uses the best quality food possible. It's really not as unhealthy as people point out.

People can really be snobs when it comes to McDonalds.

Unadon · 29/06/2017 01:27

Everything in moderation and it's fine.

MissBlueskies · 29/06/2017 01:42

I think it's fine and a nice treat for your son. I think McDonalds are a lot more healthy than they were years ago, for example they don't add salt to their fries and much more I am sure, though I don't know much about it I'm afraid!.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/06/2017 01:44

for example they don't add salt to their fries

Yes, we do. As soon as fries are cooked, they go into the fry station and we pour salt onto them.

You only get unsalted fries if you specifically ask for them.

(Oh, and all burgers are seasoned with salt and pepper too.)

user1476869312 · 29/06/2017 01:59

No problem at all. Fast food every single meal might be a cause for concern, but once a week won't do any harm.
(Yes, some people are miserable twats about food. These people are usually miserable twats about everything else, as well.)

Atenco · 29/06/2017 02:08

Oh the mumsnet love for McDonalds. Oh well.

I don't trust the bloody stuff. Of my dd's friends at school, only she and another friend didn't eat at McDonalds and didn't become obese (and I mean obese) as adults.
