Great news about public sector pay rises - yay! Que countless comments along the lines of 'not all public sector deserve a pay rise, only, nurses, paramedics, police and firefighters'. Everyone except teachers then? Should have expected it really Sad.

Que?

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 28/06/2017 16:52

People are just jealous of the perceived long holidays i think. And stupid if they don't realise the value of education.

ExplodedCloud · 28/06/2017 16:53

Try being 'other' local authority then. Not even the teachers remember us.

Mrsmartell08 · 28/06/2017 16:53

I love my kids teachers
They are ace
And I make sure I tell them, too 😁

Jellymuffin · 28/06/2017 16:53

Try social work 😂

TweeBee · 28/06/2017 16:54

Well I'm an AHP and we are rarely ever mentioned so YABU to think it's just teachers who get left out. Plenty of other public sector workers doing great jobs.

araiwa · 28/06/2017 16:54

Lots of people give many public sector workers a lot of shit. They are the first to complain when they go on strike though... my bins!!

BenLui · 28/06/2017 16:55

I don't think teachers are great. I think they work hard and do a difficult job.

I don't know anyone who doesn't feel similarly.

Coddiwomple · 28/06/2017 16:55

people think about emergency services first, it doesn't mean everybody is negative towards teachers.

The problem is also that teachers (some of them) have been complaining about petty things FOR YEARS! Now that they have more than good reasons, people don't really listen anymore. I mean (some) teachers complaining about their long hours.. aren't we all.

Ignore them. I am not a teacher but friends and family are and work incredibly hard, spending their own money to add to classroom resources, spending holidays planning and marking and I get so annoyed by comments about long holidays, "teachers should teach my kids everything" etc. It makes me question people that think like that and consider our friendship. It's so ignorant.

TizzyDongue · 28/06/2017 16:58

Pretty sure public sector is more than nurses, paramedics, police, firefighters and teachers. So, no, not just teachers being picked on.

Jellymuffin · 28/06/2017 16:58

It's just frustrating how different private and public sector are. My husband gets bonuses and pay rises, drinks and lunch on company credit cards but I'm left buying stuff for my job out of my own pocket as there's no money and I want my class to have stimulating lessons.

(((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) All Teachers

It's a Bloody Impossibly Hard Job with virtually No Pats on the back, mostly only criticism .

No, I am not a teacher, just a Mum and Nana.

Even back in the 70's Teachers were a common put of criticism. Some things never change.

TizzyDongue · 28/06/2017 16:59

^ didn't autocorrect.

MrsBobDylan · 28/06/2017 17:01

The world is full of highly vocal twats who really don't voice everyone's opinions.

I am very grateful for the effort my sons' teachers put in and for their skill in imparting knowledge which I certainly couldn't (who wants to listen to their parents?!).

Jellymuffin · 28/06/2017 17:03

Oh, and of course the pressure to be absolutely fucking perfect at everything and never hastily write anything or miscalculate anything, do anything in your private life that doesn't set you up as a perfect role model, take abuse from parents but never stand up to them, never get pregnant because you'll ruin your classes education and the rest because we get paid fuck all but are expected to be teachers 24/7 (we may as well be with the work load and anxiety anyway) - well done Tizzy, you prove my point about feelings towards teachers. Happy now?

OP posts:
Butterymuffin · 28/06/2017 17:04

That's not 'everyone except teachers'. It's really aimed at non-front line 'pen pushers' Hmm who always get slated as unnecessary, till they are got rid of and suddenly people realise that then you have specialist staff like doctors being asked to do admin when the system was better with that being done by, er, admin staff.

I really don't think teachers are the targets here. There is a lot of support for teachers and the tough job they do under difficult circumstances.

Jellymuffin · 28/06/2017 17:06

Class's even - did it again!

Jellymuffin · 28/06/2017 17:06

Or class' - either is correct before someone jumps on me!

It's the best job in the world. I couldn't care less what other people think to be honest.
