We live in a close of four houses on side of the road- it's literally our road and then the houses on the right hand side. Driveways can take 2 cars in all 4 houses.

Neighbour knocked earlier today to say they are going on holiday until Friday. Neglected to mention that family were coming and leaving their cars here.

Anyway one of these said cars is blocking DHs car in. We cannot get it out without me reversing mine, clearing some junk out of the garage so he can drive in to reverse sideways into my space and out.

Garage is full of shit. It's stuff we can't store in the house because it's damp etc.

AIBU to consider hiring a tow truck to get the car moved?? I'm going to have to take DH to work for 6am now Angry

It is causing an pbstruction- you have to mount the kerb on the other side of the road to get past it which is a tight fit driving out of my parking space. We are the house on the end so it isn't affecting anyone else.

If you're blocked in then can't you call the police to come move the offending vehicle?

Report
Madbum · 28/06/2017 00:20

You need a rugby team to lift and move it, it's been done on here before! Do you have any contacts at the local club?

Can I be the first to say, we need a diagram?

You're going to need a diagram if you want any quality of response it's Mumsnet law .

Have the family all gone away together?

Report
PovertyPain · 28/06/2017 00:22

Apparently it's illegal to block someone into their drive, though not put of it. Phone the none emergency police and ask their advice. Cheeky bastards.

Who leaves their car on a relatives street blocking in their neighbours for days at a time, ? Why didn't they block themselves in as the family were all going away together?
Call the police and get it moved

I was going to draw a really funny diagram but I'm a shit drawer :(.

We think they have all gone away. DH knocked banged the shit out of on the door earlier and nobody answered and the dogs aren't their either.

Glad they don't still have their cat and they didn't ask us to feed it because we would be tempted to let the fucker starve in revenge.....just kidding

Selfish twats. I would call the police. Don't mention that you think that it's anything to do with your neighbour, or that it's only until Friday. Just say that a car is blocking you in and you need to get out. If the police won't help, then try your local council.

Bertha they have blocked one car in with one of the cars which is in front of the offending car. There is a space on their drive but the fuckers obviously couldn't be arsed moving their car and being considerate

I even had them over for a glass of wine when they moved in

Call non emergency police number and let it be one of those things no-one ever mentions between you and your neighbour. Grin

Very annoying btw and I'd be very much pissed off. You could alternatively call police and leave a really smiley passive aggressive note of explanation with a diagram. Practise here!

I should be asleep but now want to draw you a passive aggressive diagram 😂

Please do UnRavelling- I may get brave enough to post one in the morning.

Calling police non emergency now

Great! Glad to hear it. you should get them towed.

Scoobydoobydont · 28/06/2017 01:12

Unless it a massive car 4 blokes can normally bounce it out of the way.

One on each corner, bounce in time and lift in a certain direction altogether.

Alternatively just do whichever end is blocking you in, bounce it away from the kerb, get your car out, bounce it back and park on road until they return.

You might set the alarm off though - which then leaves you a different issue :-)

You don't need the police or tow truck for moving a car a short distance. You just need a jack and four car skates (£54 for the set of 4). Jack each wheel. Skate under. Move the car to somewhere more convenient. Re-Jack and remove skates. Much cheaper than call-out fee for a tow truck.

Get them towed that's really disrespectful.
