AIBU?

Tables in soft play.

Daft and not very important question but just wondered if I was in the right or rude here?
Took my ds to soft play this afternoon, it was crowded with a smallish number of tables (no cafe attached so nobody was eating) with chairs around, no other chairs or sitting space apart from those around the tables. I waited a while myself, standing awkwardly in a corner for about ten minutes then got a table. It was a table with 4 chairs around. I sat down and not long after three women with a pram came in and couldn't find a table. They sort of clustered round my table glaring at me and making loud comments about people who hog tables so nobody else can sit down. So I shuffled my things around so 3/4 of the table was empty, smiled at them and said "those chairs are all free you can sit there"
One woman answered "that's not the point really is it?" The others ignored me but they continued to stand around me giving dirty looks and huffing until a table came free.
Was I being unreasonable to sit at a table and stay there since I was on my own?

YADNBU....

What odd behaviour.

Why do they have claim to the table? If they want a seat get there earlier or wait until one came available as you did. What should you have done? Sat on the floor for their gratification.

Strange. Strange people.

Of course you weren't. She was being a nutter. You offered her somewhere to sit ffs! Seriously, don't stress about it.

No not at all. You made room for them to sit down. They had seats, and you had a seat. I don't see why you should have to move - they sound very rude.

WTAF? YADNBU! I don't see why you should have to sit on the floor any more than anyone else Hmm

What did they want you to do, go back to standing up? You were polite in inviting them to share your table (first come first served) and they were extremely rude.

They were being bullies. I hate women like this... all bolshy and brave when in a pack but all shy when on their own!!

They sound so rude Hmm when she made her not the point comment I'd have struggled not to tell her to fuck off.

Thanks, glad this is not some sort of unwritten "rule" I've broken, I've noticed a few similar mummy confrontations in soft play before, seems a few regulars can get territorial! Shock

Maybe they wanted to have a packed lunch and thought they should therefore have priority over you? Rude anyway, YANBU

I'm so glad my kids are growing up now. Softplay is a recipe for arguments. They were obviously intimidating you to move so they could have the table for themselves.

You would think the owners would have more chairs to prevent this . Women can be so nasty and they get worse once they've had kids. Bitches

I'd inform the people who run the soft play. No room for difficult people in an environment that is for children and a place that all should feel comfortable in.

Confused

Being in a group doesn't give you more right than being on your own! Absolutely not BU.
you were already too kind to offer them space in the first place. I wouldn't even have bothered unless one was obviously elderly, just for the glaring.

YANBU, as other have said.
I had a weird table experience at soft play recently - lots of free tables, and a big group (at a guess, mum, gran and older sister, plus babe in arms and two pushchairs) plonked themselves on my table. I didn't mind, just found it odd not to have their own space when there was loads going!

Tl;dr Softplay is weird.
