My 8 year old son has loved the frank lampard books about

Frankish magic football. He reads these to himself at bedtime and it's really helping his reading. He also enjoys David Williams and Ronald Dahl but prefers me to read them to him.
Could anyone recommend some more books he may enjoy reading by himself? Especially if they are football ones!

You know, I just typed 'books for eight year old boys' in Amazon, and some crotchless knickers appeared! Outrageous!

Anyhow, what about Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Harry Potters? Sorry, I don't know any football related apart from autobiographies!

Yeah I've had a google (didn't see the crotchless knickers tho!!) and didn't find much. Someone recommended the frankie books a while back and hoped someone else would know of something else similar. He's not quite where he should be with his reading so want to encourage it! I may try the wimpy kid books. Thanks. I think Harry Potter would be a bit beyond him at the moment really but may take a second look at them.

My DS loves the Captain Underpants series, they're a bit silly and archaic but I'm just delighted he wants to read something.

The captain underpants film is out soon. The trailer is hilarious so you could get a book and tie it in with going to see the film.

Tom Palmer writes children's books about football, amongst other things. "Foul Play" is football/crime, "The Squad" is football/spies, and "Defenders" is football/ghosts, to name but three. He came to the school I work at a couple of years ago and was brilliant.

Percy Jackson and The LIghtening Thief is easier reading than Harry Potter to start.

There was a series called Power of Five that my son enjoyed at that age. Also The Roman Mysteries (I think it was called) was another series of 15! I liked series because we kept running out of books!

My 8 year old has just discovered The 13 Story Tree house books and loves them, he's even writing his own stories based on them! This is a big step for him, although he's an excellent reader these are the first books that have really caught his imagination, despite my best efforts with Harry Potter....

Also-your local library may be doing a summer reading challenge. It's a great incentive for him to read more and they get a medal at the end of the holidays if they read 6 books.
