AIBU?

About DH mid-holiday meeting?

Holiday coming up and DH has arranged to 'nip out' for a couple of hours one day to meet a client, as we're in the area.

I feel it will impact on family time (2 small DC), holiday is exactly that- time away from work.

He feels it's a good opportunity to take the chance of a meeting as we will be close by, make contact with client, improve relationship etc.

Aibu to be annoyed, or should I just suck it up for the sake of an hour or 2?

YABU it's an hour or two, it won't impact on your holiday

I'd be annoyed. I get pissed off when DH deals with work emails on holiday.

I wouldn't be too pleased either, but if it really is just a couple of hours at the beginning of the day (is it?), I would just suck it up.

I "work" when on holiday (mainly check emails and delegate shit out) otherwise I find it really stressful. It's two hours not two days anyway.

It makes sense for him to do it as you're there.

Not sure I'd be overly happy though either tbh.

And it's only for a few hours.

I can see why it is annoying, but it makes sense I guess. Unless he has form for nipping out for a few hours and being gone most of the day? I would suggest an early/breakfast meeting so you can have a lazy morning with the kids and still get to do something.

When we were on holiday with friends one year, her DH had to take a transatlantic flight part way through the holiday for a meeting. Now that I would object to.

Suck it up. You should be proud that he's taking initiative to support his career. It's only a couple of hours.

If he is self employed then fair enough.
Wage slave - then tell them to do one. (or give you the day's holiday back)

Suck it up.. it's only a short time, it'll hardly impact your holiday

I am so glad my job doesn't involve having to meet clients and send emails when I'm on holiday!

I would be pissed off as well OP. Holiday means holiday. Unless he's self-employed which is slightly different.

DH is self employed. When we go on holiday he tends to reject most but not all work calls. He will spend an hour first thing, while I'm getting ready or relaxing responding to emails. I used to get narked about this but he says he can deal with things while they are a minor problem or concern and it stops things escalating and getting worse. He says he knows everything is under control for when he goes back and knows what he has to deal with. Once I could see it made him calmer and relax more it has become our normal and doesn't interferwith the holiday.

I agree that he should have the meeting, but I would add that as you will have had the DC on your own, so should he. Book a manicure, or pedicure, or just take a book to a cafe.

Incidentally, I will deal with work email while away, generally to delete the junk, and forward things to other people to action. I do it early each day before the others get up.

DH did this once when we were on holiday. I minded him meeting a client for a quick drink far less than the times he's spent most of the holiday answering emails and calls from clients while we've been away.

Seriously? Does it always have to be tit for tat and things have to be that ridged. This is something that I will never understand about MN. Oh well, at least you didn't suggest a Spa!
