to ask if you don't have a landline?

We have the possibility of going on board with a new internet provider and they don't require you to have a landline.

We're not sure of the costs as yet because they are finishing off installation at our complex but Dh said we may aswell not have one - we have mobiles which have unlimited calls and texts. I immediately said no we need a landline. But after thinking about it, we don't. People call us on our mobiles generally. The only person/s who call the landline are my Mum and his Mum one in a frozen over hell.

So. Do you not have a landline and does it matter if you don't?

I haven't had a landline in 8 years. I never used it and it's stupid to pay for something you never use. I have never missed it.

DH and I are currently debating this. The only two people who ever call it, apart from cold callers, are both Mums, same as you OP.
DH can't seem to get his head round not having one but it would save us a bob or two.

Is there really that much of a difference in price? We're with Sky at the mo and pay around £36 a month I think for phone and internet.

Haven't had one in years
Even with our last provider who included it as part of the tv/broadband bundle we made sure they didn't install it.
They're a pointless annoyance imho

I haven't had a landline since I left home when I was 18. I'm now 31. People call me on my mobile.

I've found credit cards require two numbers and I think a landline improves your credit rating when applying for finance but I'm not entirely sure...

We have a land line, but where we live we have no mobile signal Sad

Never had a landline since moving out of my parents house. Our broadband package includes free weekend calls I think but we've never had a phone plugged in. It's not necessary for us what with unlimited calls and free minutes.

A lot of my clients don't have a landline. It doesn't seem to be essential in the way it used to be

We got rid of our over a year ago and I was rather resistant to the idea.

However I can honestly say that I haven't missed it for a moment

I have a landline only because I have very poor, unreliable mobile access at home, if I could rely on mobile I would do away with a landline.

I never use a landline and would jump at the chance to get internet etc without having to have one.

Which company is offering this, if you don't mind posting it OP?

We have one. I don't know the number and the one time someone called us on it, they had the wrong number.

We have one because we needed it for the broadband. The phone hasn't even been plugged in for over a year though. Now they are making phone line free broadband we will be converting to that though it is quite useful to hand out a number to companies that insist you give one but you really don't want to answer

Haven't had a landline in ten years, hardly anyone has them any more in Finland as mobiles took over years ago.

I don't have a landline but I still have to pay for it to have internet, who are you moving to? nosey

It's never mattered that I don't use a landline and I think more and more people are completely without one nowadays

We didn't have one for 7 years but then moved and we have zero mobile signal, so installed a landline. The only calls we get are either wrong number or cold calling twits, it's infuriating.

I absolutely wouldn't have one if we didn't need it.

We don't have one. even the burglar alarm works over wifi these days.

We kept one for a long time as we live abroad, so used it to call family. Then we all got whatsapp Grin

I don't, my broadband package includes one but I told the engineer not to bother as I wouldn't ever use it

We have one because it got us a better rate on our mortgage and credit agreements. But the only person who uses it is my dh's gran.

I have a landline ... but no phone Grin. Only bought it as part of my package with sky.

Never needed it. If I did have one, again it would be only my mum who called me.

I only have a landline because I had to have one to get broadband. I have no idea what my landline number is (it's written down somewhere). I used to use it to call my father but he says it's better sound quality when I call him using WhatsApp over wifi so I'm not even using the landline for that anymore.

We have to have a landlord for the broadband DSL as there is no 4G signal here.
