No it isnt easier, no it's not less work and no DH you don't actually do anything like all of it!
Fuck me, it's 160 degrees out there, my rage is hotter than the damn BBQ which wasn't lit in time of course and naturally I have started things in the oven because when the BBQ does get going it will incinerate the outside of everything and leave a lovely warm core of pure food poisoning within...
AIBU surely we could get them banned, smoke, emissions or something??

YABU

I love BBQs (if you know how to do them properly)
Slice some batches and chuck a salad together - voila!

I'm a female and I say let's have a bbq. I never chuck anything in the oven. If stuff is cremated on the outside and raw inside its still flaming or the grill is too close to the charcoal.

You'd hate me, I love a good BBQ. We're even having one for our wedding breakfast Smile
YABU done right, they're lovely.

Best thing about being single - no fucking BBQs! Trays of meat (I like ONE burger or a couple of sausages at a time, don't know why you're suddenly supposed to start cramming yourself full of meat because it's a barbecue?), smoke everywhere, having to scrub the fucking racks because obviously they didn't get cleaned last time, trekking round depleted supermarkets in the heat to find buns and stuff, and then having to sit in the sun which I don't like doing anyway! Argh. Life is so much better without BBQs.

Yabu

I love a BBQ. I prepare all the food in he kitchen before 12/1 and then leave all the cooking to dh.

Yanbu in light of the fact that it sounds like you're not very good at it.

I've certainly said it to DH- the one BBQ we've ever actually had (just us, yes it was a shedload of work but we enjoyed it)

My friend loves them and she often has them. My sister in law does too and they cook a lot outside.

I don't mind them but now we have a gas bbq we just treat it as cooking on any other grill, just outside. We don't tend to do the whole big pile of burgers and sausages though.

So last time we did ribs as a starter, then we cooked a fillet of beef on the grill, alongside some corn on the cob and wrapped asparagus. Served it with a salad and some homemade chips. No risk of food poisoning and no additional work.

YANBU I HATE barbecues with a passion.
Lots of waiting around whilst hungry to eventually eathe something burnt, undercooked or both.
If it's at home it just seems like a lot of hassle to take all the food etc outside whenow I could just cook it properly in the kitchen.

I love a BBQ and we grill all through the year. We have some pork chops for later but I won't do them until about 8pm when hopefully the sun will be starting to go down.

God yes! Went to one yesterday. It was sweltering. Me and equally pregnant host both inhaled a fuckton of carbon monoxide. Everything was a delightful combo of scorched and raw. There were flies everywhere. Hygiene practices(raw/cooked, utensils, veggie/meat) didn't bear thinking about. Some poor sod misses out on socialising and eating because they're stuck to the bbq.

I'm planning on hosting something in the garden later this year. Anything that needs cooking will be cooked in an oven and then brought out.

And I really loathe them near children. Even if you're watching like a hawk it just seems like a really unnecessary danger.

Yanbu if the person doing the BBQ is poor at it.

Can't you swan off to Tesco to get ingredients for mojitos or something and leave your DH to it?

YANBU.

OH keeps suggesting BBQ'ing.

To me in our top floor maisonette it means running up and down a death-defying flight of back stairs to the garden with trays of stuff, nearly breaking my neck on each journey for all of about 10 mins of actual eating after which the kids get bored and start either trying to run near to the BBQ/fight with each other/chuck balls over the neighbours fence etc.

A LOT of work for not much relaxation (unless you are at someone else house having a BBQ and you can relax in a chair with a large glass of something and nosh on food.

Read your title and laughed out loud OP. YANBU!!

How well I remember the hours of passive aggression as a child as my mother bought the stuff, made all the salads, marinaded and prepared everything, and my father Made Fire, beat his chest a bit and left her to do all the washing up.

And claimed he'd given her a day off cooking.

How she didn't batter him to death with his own lighter fluid I don't know.

Yabu I love a BBQ. Bbq bananas with ice cream & caramel sauce are a thing of beauty as are chicken, chorizo and halloumi skewers

In fact it was my idea to do one tonight, Me & dh both cook The food

Have never had food poisoning from one
I have no neighbours at all so shouldn't annoy anyone too much

If your burning the outside and it's raw in the middle, you aren't doing it right!

I love BBQs. My favourite meat on a BBQ is duck breast, it cooks beautifully and is full of smokey delicious flavour. I also like lamb chops charred on the BBQ. Add some corn on the cobs, garlic field mushrooms and some asparagus, what's not to like?

Nettletheelf · 18/06/2017 13:26

Oh yes, OP.

Who will be scrubbing the grill bars before and after? Why, the women, of course! Because the men have done the real work, poking sausages with tongs.

Who will be called upon to solve the ice shortage afflicting every summer BBQ? The women!

Who will be washing all the glasses?

I actually love barbecues. At other people's houses.

This is perfect BBQ weather. I actually said those very words last night OP.
Doesn't have to be anything else but some burgers really and we chuck jacket potatoes in under the grill.
