AIBU?

AIBU to go topless at the local outdoor swimming pool?

It's a glorious day & I'm at the local outdoor pool. It was a right hassle getting here (3 children under 5, queue to get in etc.) but now I'm here it's amazing! HOWEVER realised I've forgotten my bikini top!!! Not wearing a bra so can't use that instead. Going back for a bikini top isn't an option (it's a long round trip, would have to pay/queue again yadayadayada). This has made me think - Could I go topless? Im desperate for a swim and don't care about other people seeing my breasts. I'm not English and where I'm from going topless is more common. But here none of the women are topless.

Is it against the law? Would I be told off?

Would you go topless and if not why not?

You'll probably be told to go and get your top.

I think you'd get asked to cover up tbh

Swim in your top?

Ah..I don't think I would no.

You might not mind but other parents might.

I have gone topless at a beach before but not a public swimming pool

There might be a no topless policy there anyway

Absolutely not. I've never seen it done here and I'd imagine it wouldn't be well received.

Unfortunately yes you would be unreasonable in a public pool.

Are you in the UK? Like at a lido or similar?

It's not going to be acceptable, sorry (although I don't really see why).

What about wearing your top in the pool, then when you get out put a towel on and leave the top out to dry before you go home?

I certainly wouldn't because my boobs would be round my waist somewhere Grin. Surely it depends on what the rules are for the pool? Could you borrow a t-shirt to swim in if you're not wearing one - it would dry in no time when you got out.

There will be a lost property box. Get a swim suit from there.

Erm, no. Not really the done thing go topless in Blighty old thing.

Just wear your t-shirt/top in the water and allow enough time at the end for it to dry out.

It really frustrates me that its not Okay!

Like why are female nipples more offensive than males!

Hi Bright, I hear you Smile Where I'm from it's very common to go topless on the beach but not really in the UK at a swimming pool. I'd keep your top on.
For what it's worth I'm pretty sure it's not illegal, unless it could be classed as indecent exposure. Might be against pool rules thought.

We've had decades of the fetishing and over-sexualising of women's breasts in this country (see Page 3 et al) and that's why you can't go topless at a public swimming pool in this country and it's also why some people think breastfeeding is disgusting.

Not saying it's right, because it's so clearly very, very wrong... but that's why.

Ok I won't. I do find it a funny thought that some parents might not want their children to be exposed to a pair of breasts😂

Agree completely Sofabitch
No one bats an eye at a topless male, but there would be an uproar if a woman was to walk around topless, just look at the replies here.
Just because we have an extra bit of fat under our nipples? Or because they've been overly (and wrongly) sexualised?

Funny that you should mention breastfeeding moving as I'm currently tandem feeding my twins (all day long on a hot day like this!), so I'm basically set here with both boobs out anyway! But I'll be sure to put them away when I go for a swimGrin

Yabu for dragging 3 small children on a hassle filled journey, then queuing up for a packed outdoor pool on a blazing hot day. Specially when youre going to be sitting out of the pool feeding your twins 'all day long' (your words) What is your other under-5 child going to do while you're doing that ? - I assume not allowed to swim unaccompanied. Sounds hellish.

I'm afraid it's not really the done thing in the UK. I'm not convinced it is illegal, but I expect you will get some hysterical pearl clutching and a lot of staring.

I dare you!

British people are so bloody prudish. I'm one of them so I feel able to say that.

I'd love to be topless at an out door pool right now. I wouldn't have the guts though- and I'm very comfortable in my skin. I'd be the first to whip them out on holiday.

Please do report back if you do. I'm just imagining some embarrassed 15 year old life guard asking you to put your tits away. Grin

I expect she probably has another adult with her to swim with the other children whilst she feeds.
