AIBU?

To be angry at the noise?

So it's a lovely hot sunny day and we want to enjoy the garden... except across the road (so we are in the back and can still hear it) is the idiot using his noisy car hose/kercher machine or whatever it is to wash his 4 cars. Then a couple of doors up someone is building some decking so got the saw (electric of some sort) and various other noisy tools! When they both go quiet it's blissful... can here some kids playing and the birds...buzzing bees...a faint radio/music of some sorts...

I think I'm more annoyed with the chap 2 doors up who is essentially doing building work at the weekend. Bang bang crash crash....saw saw! AIBU?!

Well, as much as I enjoy the quiet, unless you move to the arse end of nowhere I guess YABU. Those are fairly run of the mill sounds!

How dare someone spoil your enjoyment by doing DIY. And at the weekend! The cheek of it!

How dare these people work all week and use the weekend to do this stuff Hmm

When's he supposed to do it? He probably works in the week and wants to get it done over the weekend. It's not even like its night time. You're being bizarre and unreasonable. If you want silence go sit in a field or something.

Does he work all week? When do you think he should do it? Do you never do any diy which may impact on your neighbours?

In most areas, it's generally advised that power-working-tool-thingys are used Saturday 8-5pm, and Sunday until 1pm.

So...you know...it might stop soon....

Yabu.

People work in the week and the weekend is time do get stuff done.

And building decking is not unreasonable! It's not the middle of the night, if your that bothered go inside..

You need to move to a more remote house, sorry

When else do you expect him to get work done?

My DH is busy using power tools in our garden to do some essential DIY. I couldn't give a stuff if it is noisy for our neighbours. It's a reasonable time and he doesn't do it every weekend. He's not going to take holiday to do it just because the noise might be slightly annoying to our neighbours.

My son is also in the paddling pool, splashing and laughing. Shock horror. There are children out playing in the street and they too are laughing and shouting!!!

These are normal suburban sounds and come with the territory of having neighbours. If you don't like it, you'll need to move to a rural spot further away from all these irritating other people.

I don't know that it is unreasonable, but I will join in your irritation with great empathy.

All I want is some peace in the relatively small garden we have. If anyone else says 'move to a field in the arse end of nowhere then' I will sob. I would love to do that, I can't afford to.

Today I can hear 3 different lots of radio/music simultaneously, a child next door beating crap out of a fence with a bat, someone drumming with windows open, next door but ones dog yapping incessantly, someone else DIYing, someone else's child screaming. It's like trying to sit and read my book in a circus. Is my book annoying them? No. So why should their radio/shouting/banging about me?

What I have the issue with is the infiltration - my peace doesn't interfere with their life, so who should their noise interfere with mine? It's just about courtesy. Doesn't it occur to these people that I don't want to hear their dog? Their music? If my peace in some way interrupted them constantly then they would complain.

I also cannot stand this 'don't be miserable,it's community living,it's just people enjoying life'. Fair enough but it is always at the compromise of the person who wants peace and never the other way round. It's just not fair.

I really really wish people would be more considerate.

We live in Central London and it is never quiet here, ever. However in our immediate area we have reached a small truce and agreed on no construction / loud DIY during weekends or holidays.

But the fucking birds are insane right now, fucking thuggish urban birds terrorising the area with their super loud cacophonous thuggery at god forsaken early hours. And right now as well. Must be happy hour.

YABU
I'm surrounded by at least 15 children in neighbouring houses. They have paddling pools, football's and trampolines in their gardens. All I can hear is bounce, thud and kids shrieking and the 3 houses opposite all have music blaring and are cutting hedges and their gardens. It's bedlam. This is noise!
But it's lovely weather and the weekend so I have to put up with it despite wanting to sit and enjoy the sun in peace in my garden. Oh well....

These threads amuse me lots. If you want no noise go and buy a house with NOTHING around you. Otherwise accept that neighbours have their own life to lead which includes diy at weekends.

YABU but I completely sympathise, noise from neighbours drives me crazy. We moved to the country with farms as our immediate neighbours (one half a mile away in each direction) for precisely this reason and the peace is amazing.

OP - I have sympathy for you :)

I can hear a power drill and a power washer ATM. My immediate neighbour has just cut back his hedge, so will probably have a bonfire early evening too.....

If this is true "industrial tools going on here" then I hope they are all wearing suitable ear and eye protection. Or its just normal household tools and you are being Unreasonable.

If you want silence, go find an island off Scotland somewhere.

Where I live two business premises close at 11am each night. I am not surprised that this creates noise. I am amazed that people to be like them and not make any noise (although people creeping about in silence all the time is really odd).

No barbeques, no music blaring, no paddling pools.
I wonder if I've gone deaf Hmm
