Mums offended by my dog?

I have a friendly, cuddly dog, he's a cross breed but one that most kids want to happily stroke (most adults too). Since he is a rescue he is always on a leash to prevent running off when not in a dog park area (so people approach him to meet him).

He has quite a common name that is being used for boys these days but is also a very common 'dog' name. Alfie.

The other day I was walking him and a mum and son came over, all ''aww he's so cute! can I stroke him?'' It was all good, then the kid asked me his name and I said ''Alfie'' and the mum got this sour look on her face and huffed, ''That's my son's name'' and ushered her son away in a mood.

Now its happened before that kids have had the same name as him and the parents laugh or the kids are quite happy but I was so Confused at this woman's reaction. Would you be annoyed if someone had a pet with the same name as your kid??

Ridiculous bints.

I have a Christian name that used to be popular as a dog's name a few years ago. 3 people at work had a dog with my name at one point! I thought it was funny.

These women are pathetic.

My DS1 is called Milo, I've since met loads of people with dogs called Milo. I really don't care, he finds it funny. A friend of mine had a chicken called Barbara, not sure if it offended anyone though.

I haven't had that situation.

My pets had 'human' names, Ruby, Sophie (sweetest kitten ever), Poppy, Heidi, Kitty, Ellie, Danny, my friend had a dog called Freya.

We both had the same reaction that you got. I hear of people using names that are ideal for every type of pets, so they need to just get over it.

She was BU.

My cat has the same name as my nephew. My cat was here 1st, nephew came along a couple of years after, nobody bats an eyelid.

The answer when she huffs 'that's my son's name' is 'oh how lovely, did you name him after my dog ?'

She's mad.
My kids would have been over the moon to have the same name as a dog.

Maybe she shouldn't have named her son a dogs name Grin

I have a fairly common name shortened in a less usual way, it seems to be a very common name among German Shepherds😂😂

I have a theory...that sometimes people name their pets the name they would have chosen if they'd had another child.

There are that many dogs called things like Ruby, Seth and Ollie at my DC's school I KNOW it's true.

Call them a name that sounds like a dog or a cat say.

You met a random idiot. It won't be the last time. Try not to dwell on their nonsense.

My cat's name is Alfie too. Someone asked why I called him a human name and not a "cat" name! Probably because I think Tiddles, etc. are daft. I'm not bringing scorn on all Alfies by using that name for a pet, surely?

I know two dogs called Alfie, it's quite a common dog name...

My son has a name that is quite common as a dog name and I would have laughed and asked if you wanted to swap! Grin

My cat is called Alfie, I hope I don't offend anyone!

Super, I have a kid with one of the names you've listed. Am happy to try and pretend to be offended if you'd like me to?

I once startled my Avon lady and terrified her son by opening the door to receive my order and yelling "Cody, get in here, you bad boy" turns out her son had the same name as my dog! The poor wee kid thought I was going to kidnap him.

I have a different Avon lady now....not sure if that is connected.

There's a woman who lives round here with a giant ovcharka type dog that has the same name as DD3. It's quite cute. I'd happily swap my kid for her dog anyway.

I also know a couple of kids with the same name as our cat, but it is undoubtably a cat's name. Anyone getting pissed off would look very silly indeed.

Ridiculous! DDog has quite a popular human boys name. We also know people that have dogs with the same name as DS1 & DS2. We know humans with the same name as DCat1. Honestly does it matter? A name is a name, and if I come across a dog with the same name as DS1 or DS2, I usually smile and say "good name"!

We go regularly to a farm where a giant shire horse has the same name as DS2, and that absolutely delights him. (DS, that is, the horse doesn't seem to care)

She's a silly mare.

You could do a tinkly laugh and 'It's a lovely name isn't it?'

but I'm a miserable bitch so would opt for the death-stare option myself

Aww Superbeagle you have my granddad and my mum in that list of names of yours!

My boys are Spanish so have Spanish names including a very common one but (so far) no call from a famous tennis player with the hump!

I walk and look after a dog called Lily and the only thing I have found is that some times when I call her in the park, a girl will look up at the same time and then I will start a conversation about how nice the name is.

I have never had any one be annoyed about it.

My cat has the same name as my new neighbours husband! I only found out when I was calling the cat and I thought she was too, except she was shouting her dh in from the garden.
It's an unusual name for a pet or a human so he's probably as shocked as I am that they share a name.
