AIBU?

To be shit scared?! Awaiting results

Hi all, sorry it's a long one. I just don't know what to do with myself.

I went for a routine smear in March, 2 weeks later I recived a letter saying I have severe dyskaryosis and must attend for a colposcop. All fine, I could cope with that. Went for the procedure and they found very large patches of white, with black flecks all over (like it had been sprinkled with pepper) nurse refered me Lletz under GA.
Fast forward 4 weeks I am patiently awaiting results, expecting a letter however; I have been rng by the hospital to go and see the consultant this Friday to discuss result. I am petrified, I have never experienced anxiety before until now.
has anybody else had this and had good news? Also has anybody else had the 'black flecks' ?? The nurse pointed them out.

Try not to worry, I always think that if it was really bad then they would not be tardy with the results and follow up procedures.

aah I had the exact same result OP - lots of white with black and an appointment to go to see the consultant.

It was just to explain that they'd removed all the 'bad cells' and that I'd have yearly smears for so long then back to normal screening.

Fingers crossed same for you you x

When I was in the same situation I had a Lletz on a Monday, was called on Thursday, and was at the consultant on Friday, to be told it was bad news.
So, if it is cancer, and statistically thats very unlikely, I think you would have been informed much earlier.
Do you have any symptoms? Bleeding between periods? I did, although I only realised in hindsight.

And if it helps, I did have cancer, but it was early and treatable. I even managed to have a baby after. I thank god for that smear result, without it I wouldn't have known for a long time, and it would have been much less treatable.

Hope you are sleeping, and the news is good tomorrow. X

Evening all,

Thanks for all your well wishes & im feeling more hopefully knowing some have experienced similar. I think (hope) it's just a case of over thinking.

I'll know in less than 12 hours, then hopefully I can get some sleep!

Good luck tomorrow. I'm not sure if this will help but if thoughts keep you up tonight you almost have to put a pin in it and tell yourself that you'll find out tomorrow and you can't do anything about it tonight. I hope you get some sleep and all goes ok x

Hi Everyone,

As I expected they've found cancer, severe, but early stages. Glad I went for my smear now!

Oh Chopper Thanks

Right, what's the plan? Have you got a named person at the hospital that you can contact? What RL support have you got?

So brilliant that they caught it early Thanks

Oh OP, so sorry to hear this but it's in the early stages and there is so much treatment available these days!!!

It does highlight the need to go for routine smears though...

Flowers for you and good luck x

Important thing is they caught it early. Cancer is a horrible word because there is so much emotion attached to it but so many forms are so very treatable now.

Big hugs and Flowers for you today Chopper do lots of nice things for yourself
