AIBU?

To use Ocado because the Sainsbury's website is down?

Crazy Sunday night, I can't get the Sainsbury's delivery site to work and for long boring reasons I can't make it to a store in the next forty eight hours.

If I try Ocado will they just keep sucking the money out of me until my bones are dry, or is it quite reasonable?

I'd rather avoid the horror of our local Tesco and Asda service, Morrisons hasn't made it to us and I don't use Iceland for ethical reasons.

Waitrose? Next best thing really.

Definitely use Ocado! I love it.

Stupid question - is Ocado not Waitrose?

Argh I can't get Sainsbury's to work either! Bloody irritating, got paid Friday so was going to do my next few weeks. Had to get stuck into the wine instead

Ocado really isn't that much more expensive than Sainsbury's. They have Ocado own brand for a lot of stuff which isn't as expensive as Waitrose. It's actually pretty reasonable!

Right. I'm going in...

Yes do it - you should be able to get a £20 off your first order code somewhere too.

Be careful though it's hard to go back to Sainos after ocado!

I like ocado and whilst I find them slightly more expensive than Sainsburys, they have an Ocado range which is good value and o find their delivery and service is excellent (no particular gripes with Sainsbury's other than the odd substitution) yanbu to try Ocado!!

Can't use Sainsbury's either and Ocado don't deliver here, very annoying!

Mrscog - this is exactly my concern.

But if DH wants to wander off on a stag weekend when there is chicken pox brewing in DS...my hands are tied really aren't they?

Ocado is fine as you can mix Waitrose and Ocado own brand to keep the cost down. Do it!
Have a quick look for online vouchers if you are a first time user, you should be able to get 20 quid off!

I think Ocado started off exclusively supplying Waitrose groceries for the first 3/5 years or something. Then it was able to sort of cut itself a bit looser from Waitrose and supply its own Ocado own brand stuff alongside Waitrose own brand. And at the same time Waitrose started its own Waitrose delivery service.
Clear as mud! Grin

Ohh yes do it, it's not actually more expensive and they usually give you money off first few shops. Always lots of delivery slots and good offers plus own brand stuff which is pretty reasonable. They also do some different brands that are really nice and good value for money.

I tried this as had a £20 off code the website crashed on me and so I got bored and didn't order.

This has apparently infuriated them because they have sent me 4 x £40 off my shop vouchers Grin shall I use them or hold out for the £50 off?

Have you ordered one to try?

I think it's a lower quality cucumber that you might not want for salad but would be fine in a juice.
Saves waste I suppose!

Another reason to shop with ocado, the number of weird items is amazing. I still have some sprouted brown rice soaked in green tea in my cupboard... Got it for free but never seem to get round to eating it!

Ocado and Sainsbury's are equally as piss takey with pricing IMO. I'm telling you ASDA app is so easy to use and they have all the same brands and a fab organic selection. I used to be a hardcore Waitrose shopper when I lived somewhere that nobody delivered to, but I'm a major convert to ASDA and have become something of an evangelist. It's SO cheap, and I promise not crappy quality. Just get everything organic/chosen by you or whatever their high end stuff is. Thank me later

Ocado match Tesco prices. Free delivery Wednesdays, they buy back any shops carrier bags. I love Ocado.

I don't do online deliveries much any more but have heard so many stories about Asda not delivering or holding on to and not returning money that I wouldn't be keen to use them now!

Report
meditrina · 29/05/2017 07:25

The snag with ASDA is they take your money before they order, and even if they are late or they cannot supply everything in your order, it can take quite some time to get a refund.

Ocado take the money only after they deliver (the driver presses the button IYSWIM once it's all dropped off) and the price is for what is actually delivered; so you aren't billed at all for missing items, and can have unacceptable substitutions, or damaged items knocked off the bill by the driver;, and you have 24 hours for no-quibble refunds online or via helpline.

Which is helpful if you can't afford to wait for a refund.

For what it's worth, I find ocado to be relatively reasonable if you do a savvy shop. They have some good deals on there and their own brand stuff is good.
