So yh, just that. Had a few issues this morning with them not able to take payment. So I rang up to try and sort it but got nowhere. I rang a different number and got put through to a manager, the manager took my car details and the payment went through, that's what he said anyway and said my shopping would be delivered.

I remember checking the bank due to the confusion so I know exactly how much I had in there. Shopping has long been delivered and I've just looked at my bank and the money is still in there. Confused

Would I be unreasonable to put the money into another account and say nothing? If they ask for the money at a later date I will offer to pay in instalments but i couldn't do it all up front especially as it wasn't my error.

What do you think I should do?

Just leave the money where it is until they take it.

Money takes about 2 days to show. I'd wait until Wednesday.

Leave the money in there, it'll take them up to a couple of days to take the payment.

Why mess about Confused?

If you move the money and offer to pay in installments later, I'd expect them not to allow you to have delivery service until it was paid in full. So that's something else to consider.

it's unlikely to show till Tuesday or Wednesday this week so I wouldn't do anything! Things rarely show up straight away on you bank statement especially over a bank holiday weekend!

Why would you move the money out of the account you assumed it would come out of?
I don't understand?
Unless your thinking if you move the money they won't be abled to take payment so your shopping will be free??
It's not like they won't know where it was delivered or your card and delivery account details. Hmm

Yh I guess that was my thinking hell Blush

I've never had the money not disappear. I made another purchase today and the money disappeared instantly. Same style as Tesco just another online shop. I guess I'm just confused as to why the money hasn't gone yet.

It'll take a few days to clear, my bank usually takes 3 days to show debit card payments.

The bank will honour the payment anyway and you will go overdrawn. Don't be silly

Oh right. I guess this is only the third time I have ordered with them and it was also for delivery in a Sunday the last time. I'll leave the money where it is and see what happens.

Is the difference showing in your available balance?

Ring them up to chase it up? Or leave the amount sitting untouched until they finally catch up with it.

Not sure why you think emptying your account would be an acceptable thing to do.

Sainsburys do this with petrol they take£1 and the rest a few days later if you take the money surely you will incur bank charges?

Why are you trying to move the money? It sound's like you're trying to be an arse as opposed to be put into a difficult position because of a banking error.

You'd be very unreasonable to move the money and wait for them to come searching for it. Do you insure your car?

OP obviously is tempted as she needs the money. It's not right but some of you are acting like she suggested mugging a pensioner.

Well it would be a form of theft.

I already stated that I would leave the money where t is and I have done. Not sure why people keep mentioning me taking it.

Yes the money would be handy and I am tempted and I'm unsure that after all my years of online shopping this has never happened. Yes I'm tempted to just spend the money but I've left it on the advice of others.

Is it stealing if the shopping has been delivered and I rang up repeatedly to be told the money went through but it hasn't? Does that really make me a thief when I did sort the situation out but they still haven't taken the money? If that she what makes someone a thief I'll avoid online shopping incase this happens again.

If you kept the money permenantly that you know doesn't belong to you then obviously yes.

It's not yours anymore. Unless you have been told to keep it the money it no longer belongs to you as you have a contract with the retailer. You have recieved goods and agreed to payment.

Why don't out give them another ring and explain that it's still not left yet ?

I like the way they don't take it until after they deliver. You can end up with no money, or delivery from other Supermarkets.

If enough people started pulling the trick you suggested, then that would change.

Is it stealing if the shopping has been delivered and I rang up repeatedly to be told the money went through but it hasn't?

Yes.

You now they haven't taken the money and by transferring the money were intentionally looking to deprive them of it. If you hadn't thought about it, spent it and had then had issues 6 months in the future, it wouldn't be stealing. Mens rea.

Does that really make me a thief when I did sort the situation out but they still haven't taken the money?

Yes. The situation isn't sorted and you are attempting to deprive them of the money.

I think people keep mentioning you taking it because of the comment "Would I be unreasonable to put the money into another account and say nothing?". If you had left the money in the same account and said nothing for a month or two then you would have had very different answers.

I'd be surprised if it still is being processed. I wouldn't spend it, I think it'll still go out.
