Argh I've turned into crazy fete lady. In the last couple of days on numerous occasions - I've been entered into conversations as "you are the fete lady", "you are the fete lady". Would I be unreasonable to start donning a twin set and pearls?

So as not to drip feed, I do run the village fete, I think I am starting to become a fete bore, obsessed with it - can't get me to talk about anything else. To the extent I'm now starting a AIBU post about the flaming fete - HELP.

Will there be a Tombola stall. I do like a nice Tombola.

Pestilentialone Fri 26-May-17 22:02:26

Have you managed to get enough raffle prizes yet?

redrobinblue Fri 26-May-17 22:03:19

I'll happily assist in judging the Best Cake award.

Bubblysqueak Fri 26-May-17 22:03:47

Are you sure you've got enough bunting?

choochooo Fri 26-May-17 22:03:59

God I love a fete! How do you become the fete lady?

sunnydalegottobedone Fri 26-May-17 22:04:27

The bloody tombola...... And yes there is smile I could write a book on the Tombola saga confused got to go find some more booze for it. Is it too late to do a Calais run?

sunnydalegottobedone Fri 26-May-17 22:05:40

Half my garage is full of boxes of bunting - ever tried unraveling it after a few years of good use! Tippex works wonders on mould spots grin

JustHavinABreak Fri 26-May-17 22:06:17

How naice. Do you have a committee?

Highalert Fri 26-May-17 22:06:34

Is there a tea and cake tent? I love a fete too.

Pestilentialone Fri 26-May-17 22:06:35

choochoo pop down to your local fete and ask to help. Give it a couple of years and you will be begging for help in charge looking for the next fete lady

cuckooplusone Fri 26-May-17 22:08:09

Do you get to do the PA announcements, I organised the school fete last year and I did enjoy hearing my strident tones marr a lovely sunny afternoon ("in a minute the recorders are performing and then we will announce the raffle")

sunnydalegottobedone Fri 26-May-17 22:08:22

Cake judges are carefully selected, head of the local WI is the chief judge - all others follow.

How do you become fete lady - I have no idea, started running fetes years ago and still doing it. Tbh it's a bloody good laugh, lots of wine and OMG moments - last month is wobble, lots of FFFfffffffs and then I rock in the corner when it's all over confused

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Fri 26-May-17 22:10:44

I'm "the one on all the committees", I feel your pain grin

I love fetes though, so thank you for organising it!

Allthebestnamesareused Fri 26-May-17 22:10:59

I do hope you don't live in Midsummer Somewhere!

We all know what happens at the fete!

sunnydalegottobedone Fri 26-May-17 22:11:56

We do have a committee, quite a large one tbh, who are all awesome & do loads. But for some reason I'm the one that becomes fete lady. Maybe i am projecting a twin set and pearls confused

Yes I do some of the announcements / not all. I like that bit, especially when my panic of fuck is anyone going to turn up is everything going to be ok - turns into this is a good turnout fuck have I got enough food

mogloveseggs Fri 26-May-17 22:12:42

Don't forget the cream teas and the catch the rat game!

Justmadeperfectflapjacks Fri 26-May-17 22:13:43

Shake it up with an Anne Summers stall. .

NormHonal Fri 26-May-17 22:13:43

Best to buy some more bunting though, just in case?

Wet weather risk assessment done?

sunnydalegottobedone Fri 26-May-17 22:14:05

allthebestnames the most that happens at ours is some grumpy shit will moan that it is not all folk music, all that youngun music rubbish when a 90s cover band comes on confused

sunnydalegottobedone Fri 26-May-17 22:15:07

norm full risk assessment rag done. Plenty of undercover areas - tick, alternative wet weather / the show goes on - check

RustyPaperclip Fri 26-May-17 22:22:30

I love a good fete, there is a distinct lack of them in London. Do you fancy branching out? I will volunteer to run the coconut shy

TheSecondOfHerName Fri 26-May-17 22:25:34

Will there be a welly wang? There's nothing like a good wang.

sunnydalegottobedone Fri 26-May-17 22:27:39

rusty you need to move to the country. We do rocking fetes out in the sticks. Cricket, pimms, tug of war, cream teas, piss up real ale, and the quasi country music. If I say much more I will put myself - as we have a lot entertainment. That does not include me rocking in the corner nursing a 4 hour old pimms after it is all over!!

sunnydalegottobedone Fri 26-May-17 22:28:31

second duh of course there is a Wellie wang - goes without saying.
