Ok,

Tomorrow I have childcare, which means for the first time in 6 years I will have the day to myself. (Ds is homeschooled)
I literally have no idea what to do with myself. I know I dont want to spend the day shopping as money is a little tight, plus I have no idea what to buy for myself as all's I can think about these days is curriculum.
So the AIBU PART 1 coming up...
Am I being unreasonable not knowing what the heck to do with myself for the day??? I really don't want to waste it and want to so something constructive.
AIBU part 2 coming up...
I used to want to be a childrens writer and tried my best to make it happen. However, my work was rejected around 86 times. My dream vanished.

So now I'm thinking to myself, should I use tomorrow to try 1 more time. But I'm scared. Scared of being rejected once more.
So the question (finally)
How should I spend my day? Aibu to waste it and not do something constructive??? I.e just lounge about 😂. Or should I try one more time to be published? I.e spend the say writing my backside off.

What should I do? I don't know who I am or where I'm going!
Thanks in advance.

Xx

To have the whole day to myself? An hour or so yes. Never a whole day. :)

I wrote something very similar to this a few months ago (although it hadn't been 6 years thank god!). I had some excellent suggestions of the spa, cinema or shopping. In reality I dropped her off with childcare, came home, slept and watched trashy tv. It was absolute bliss. I also ended up fetching her early because the house was too quiet and I couldn't cope! You might find that a whole day to yourself (whether it be just a long walk or something more elaborate) might give you space to think about what you want to do and any other life stuff that needs time/space to consider.
Good luck op!

Well realistically you can't write a whole book in a day. It would be better to set aside regular time for that project e.g. 45 minutes every other night after the kids are in bed.

So tomorrow I would do something else eg go rambling, spa, cinema, massage, beauty treatment, art gallery, exhibition, theatre matinee, rock climbing, etc.

Have a good day!

Well first of all - I hope you enjoy your day off! Grin

Try not to worry too much about it. I imagine it's like (for me) anticipating a big night out. I accept, get really excited and look forward to it and then on the actual day start to have doubts and dread going and think about cancelling only to go with the flow and enjoy it after all (shots at 3am may have helped despite telling myself earlier I would stay out no later than 11pm Wink)

Also, I think it's great that you are writing a book and encourage you to do so. 86 times seems like a lot but not really. Harry Potter was rejected about 13 or 14 times and went on to be the biggest selling book series in history (or does that accolade now belong to 50 shades of shit grey?) But, can you write a book in a day? Is it a long book or a short story? I think if it's something you want to do then do it but don't do it in a day. I don't think even seasoned professional writers could write a book in one day.

Sorry, I haven't really helped! Just enjoy it! Relax. Take some you time. Work on your book. But most importantly ENJOY Grin (And leave some time to plan when you're next getting childcare to have a repeat of this.)

Sorry I should have gone into more detail. Books are very short :) could be done In a day as editing would come later. But now I'm scared that I'm rubbish, so theres no point spending the day writing incase I get rejected again.

Now YABU and need to believe in yourself! I have never written a book and know there must be thousands submitted every day so don't know if it's the same as going for an interview, but can you write to them and ask to give you feedback on their decision or does it not work like that?

If writing gives you pleasure- genuinely- and you'd appreciate having spent the day writing, then by all means do that.

But it sounds a bit like work to me! I'd echo PPs who say set aside time regularly- every day - to write/read about writing/plan/brainstorm but spend tomorrow doing something more. If you homeschool you have the option to plan this in around/with your DS - you can both have 30 mins creative writing!

Not sure where you live, but top of my child-free activities are (cliche) spa, art gallery, restaurant or cafe that's a bit posh or a cuisine DC don't enjoy, very long walk and wander thinking my own thoughts, browsing bookshops.
