Extremely sensitive I know at this time....11am today the UK had a minutes silence in respect of the victims of Mondays attack, my dcs school included which I totally 100% support...what I don't support though was the schools stance on including the terrorist in their moment of silence, to pray & forgive him as it's" what God would have done" Hmm AIBU to be bloody disgusted, dcs know what he did was an evil & an abhorrent act something that wouldnt ever be forgiven.

AIBU to Think what the fuck were the teachers thinking?

Wtf?

araiwa · 25/05/2017 17:42

im guessing a christian school which does probably teach forgiveness doesnt it?

Heirhelp · 25/05/2017 17:43

It is a Christian school? That is Christian values.

PurpleDaisies · 25/05/2017 17:43

I think it was unwise of the school to do this.

If you're looking at Christian doctrine, there's no act that can't be forgiven if the person who did it is truly sorry and follows Jesus. I really don't think the silence was the right time to say anything like that and there's nothing to suggest that the bomber wanted forgiveness.

WhooooAmI24601 · 25/05/2017 17:44

I'm torn on this because preaching love, kindness and forgiveness is probably going to teach the children more than preaching hate.

PedantHere · 25/05/2017 17:44

YABU

DonaldJBottyburp · 25/05/2017 17:45

This is the absolute ideal perfect behaviour that a person devoid of hatred would exhibit, to forgive, to be peaceful, to turn the other cheeck etc.

It doesn't mean this is what you do (or what you should do, or what is practical or moral) in the face of all violence in the real world - that's stuff you teach your kids about as you bring them up and YANBU, but the school are NBU either as a school for making this something devoid of all hatred and anger.

I don't think we need to mourn him at all of course not but if you're child goes to a Christian school, it's of the Christian belief to forgive those who do wrong.

kaytee87 · 25/05/2017 17:46

I'm a Christian and it doesn't seem like the man was sorry for what he did so why should he be forgiven? Of course he's dead so we can't ask if he's sorry but I doubt he is.

kaytee87 · 25/05/2017 17:48

Only if they seek forgiveness user

ShatnersBassoon · 25/05/2017 17:48

What sort of school is it?

PugnRoll · 25/05/2017 17:48

RC school...I just don't think it was right of them to encourage forgiveness of the attacker when really they should be thinking & praying for the poor victims & their families foremost.

Tbh I don't have a problem with this. If its a Christian school then it about forgiveness for all our sins. Teaching children this from an early age is a valuable lesson which will serve them well as they grow older.

ToastDemon · 25/05/2017 17:49

"Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us".

NotYoda · 25/05/2017 17:49

How do you know this?

usershitloadofnumbers · 25/05/2017 17:50

YANBU!

totally inappropriate and horrible timing.

NotYoda · 25/05/2017 17:50

Welcome to MN

Locallylost · 25/05/2017 17:51

"RC school...I just don't think it was right of them to encourage forgiveness of the attacker when really they should be thinking & praying for the poor victims & their families foremost."

I understand your sentiment. But why do you send you dc to RC school if you do not support the RC way?

coconuttella · 25/05/2017 17:52

Yanbu...
Whereas Christian doctrine is that all sins can be forgiven this is dependent on true repentance which isn't possible if someone blows themselves up! Also, it's not reasonable to ask children to forgive something that's so raw, and besides, they haven't been the ones directly affected by this, and it's incredibly glib and crass to 'forgive' someone when you're not the one who's been wronged - totally inappropriate!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/05/2017 17:52

So it's a Catholic school and it's following catholic attitudes? 🤔

I'm a little embarrassed for you, OP

ShatnersBassoon · 25/05/2017 17:52

I do doubt it was said, but if you send your kids to a Christian school, you've got to expect them to have forgiveness etc drummed into them.

PugnRoll · 25/05/2017 17:56

DP & I grew up RC...I've lapsed somewhat, they're attending his old primary. I agree to an extent obviously attendin RC schools I know the drill. But for some reason it just doesn't sit right with me. because the attack was specifically aimed at children maybe.

Livia- don't feel embarrassed for me Hmm
Stupid thing to say.

You chose to send your children to such a school OP. If you don't like the messages they are teaching you can always move your children to another school.
