So yestersay was my birthday, I have quite a big family, and whenever it's anybody's birthday I rush to round (not unannounced) and if it's a child I normally get, card, balloon and small present. Adult, flowers/chocolates etc and card. I got one card yesterday, I'm actually really upset by the fact no one bothered, I always try so hard to make people feel special on birthdays that honestly it cut quite deep to feel so forgotten about. I feel like 60% upset by this and about 40% AIBU/am I being a brat. It's not about the presents, but rather just the lack of thought☹️

Everyone should be thought of, and ideally get a card and whatever treat can be managed from someone on their birthday. If they have someone.

You have to remind some people, though. Someone who doesn't remember birthdays will probably never start doing so unless you make it happen (even if they love you dearly).

If its a childs birthday, yes Do adults really make a fuss every year? Maybe every decade.

I used to be you OP. Just stop, it's very freeing.

It's not too late to do something for yourself neither. There has to be something you really like doing?

Another one here who much prefers no fuss for my birthday. I do have a treat I allow myself every year which I really enjoy (eat whatever I like no holds barred) every other day except Christmas Day is low carb high fat.

I have learned (I think) which of my friends likes a card and who like me just thinks oh dear they care about cards must remember to send one. I do send for children within the wider family but adults meh

At work people bring in treats which are left out in the kitchen. I do my not anywhere near my birthday just incase anyone works it out.

So sorry you are disappointed I would encourage you to link up with like minded adults to celebrate each other's birthdays and leave the rest of us to our different traditions.

Happy B'day MissK.

It's not too late - imagine you have a very special friend to buy a present for - go and choose something divine - and give it to yourself.

Let go of the need to do for other people what you would like for yourself because it doesn't mean as much to them as it would to you. Or just do it because it makes you feel good and make sure you don't need anything in return because you are doing that for yourself.
