Friend has reached a new low. wwyd?

I've name changed for this as I don't want it associated with my posting history. A distant friend of mine is a member of a multi level management company (MLM). There are some legit MLMs but this one is nothing but a product based pyramid scheme.

She posts very little on facebook and instagram that isnt related to recruiting more people to be distributors. She makes everything into a fucking recruitment drive to fill up her downline and cream off more profits at the top from all the people at the bottom of the pyramid. Examples being: picture of 4yo on at dentist with a caption I am so happy to be able to work from home and not miss a moment with my kids, I love being a mummy, etc etc.

I've said subtle things such as going out to work does not a bad mother make and some people enjoy their job and going to work or don't want to risk buying into this but she is totally brainwashed.

I just ignore it for the most part and only read the genuine posts that aren't a hard sell for this bloody MLM. Every post has her grinning like a cheshire cat at how blessed she is and how amazing her life is and how happy this fake business has made her.

But tonight I am raging. She hasn't been around for a couple of days and then she posts this: see pic. It was accompanied with another picture of her grinning like a cheshire cat.

Everyone who has ever suffered depression (myself included, very severely in fact) will know this is total and utter bullshit and she is just using this to market her MLM and prey on depressed people who may struggle going to work. What kind of depression appears out of nowhere and is better in 2 days and you're back to normal? She is a lying cow and I find this despicable.

I've posted her previous 3 days posts then 2 days of silence and then suddenly she's had depression and is all better in 48 hours and back to hard selling her business to the depressed (who might actually be vulnerable enough to buy into it).

I feel like laying into her as this is a new low she has stooped to.

Would you say something or just leave it. It makes a mockery of anyone who has been genuinely depressed.

fluffandsnuff · 24/05/2017 22:48

Oh god just block her- life's too short to have someone's perfect life making you feel like shit.

Just make sure you send her a link to hurrah for gin or something like that first! Grin

whatonearth21 · 24/05/2017 22:51

I am ok now. I am not depressed anymore. But we all know you're vulnerable again in the future.

It's actually dangerous. Now trying to bring in depressed people, preying on them as they may be too ill to go to work. They'll have to buy into the business and spend about £100 a month on crap they'll never sell.

harderandharder2breathe · 24/05/2017 22:51

What vomit inducing bullshit

Depression doesn't last two days. It can appear from nowhere but it doesn't fucking go away after two fucking days!

Anyone else want to shove whatever crap she sells down her throat? Or into any other handy orifaces?

whatonearth21 · 24/05/2017 22:56

I want to ram it so far down her throat she'll have to shove a toothbrush up her arse to clean those teeth she keeps grinning so perfectly with.

The products are shit too and dont work. The net is awash with negative reviews. She was just lucky enough to buy into the business a long time ago so she is the top of the pyriamd. Any other poor sod wont make any money.

She wouldn't be so disrespectful of depression had she ever truly suffered from it.

She'd fucking know if she had depression. Stupid bitch. It doesn't just last 2 days. Its not like gastroenteritis. How dare she try to minimalize such a terrible illness.
About working or not working. Well you I'm afraid you can't win either way. You do work you're selfish. You don't work your feckless and bone idol.

elmo1980 · 24/05/2017 23:02

Just unfollow/unfriend her. There's no point trying to engage with people like that.

whatonearth21 · 24/05/2017 23:03

I don't think she gets how bad it is or how distasteful she sounds. She's just thought of another marketing ploy and must be congratulating herself on being so clever Angry

I was indifferent to it before now as I dont care how she earns her money but she is actually trying to prey on the vulnerable. Now I hope the pyramid scheme collapses like a house of cards.

Jakeyboy1 · 24/05/2017 23:03

She sounds incredibly annoying.

I'd be tempted to write "depression isn't a 48 hour bug you know"

gabsdot · 24/05/2017 23:04

Wow she had depression for 2 whole days.
Poor her, how tragic.
Bluergh!!!!!

neonfrog · 24/05/2017 23:06

I have a friend who I would describe as vulnerable. She has recently started selling make up through a company I suspect to be taking advantage of people like her. It's all over her Facebook page and it's very cringe as it's not her at all. She keeps getting messages of 'support' from other sellers who I think are higher in the pyramid. Its fake praise. Obviously my friend is loving it at the moment and on a high but I worry about how the fall will affect her mentally and financially. These so called companies should be banned.

acatcalledjohn · 24/05/2017 23:07

She's a dick. But nothing new.

A lot of them are using the Manchester bombing as a marketing point. An interesting one was the hashtag mudmaskformanchester from a NuSkin bot. Apparently that was just positivity and not for her own gain at al. Apparently selfies when you are wearing a mud mask is, well, supportive to victims of a bombing.

Hmm

Flyinggeese · 24/05/2017 23:09

Oh. It I just cringed myself inside out reading those OP. What a prize tit.

Pedantic point, how many 'movies' can one watch in a morning? Sounds like she's trying to weave some lifestyle bollocks blog type thing into the whole cringe fest mix.

twatchops · 24/05/2017 23:10

Arbonne by any chance.
I have one of these that I had to "unfollow"!

TheMysteriousJackelope · 24/05/2017 23:10

Unfortunately there is no point engaging with these people. Any attention is an opportunity for them to sound off on how wrong you are 'but how right you'd be if you just drank my magic, miracle, blessing shake'.

If I was in super, mega, spiteful mode I'd tag her to a video of the

with the comment 'saw this and thought of you'. Then I'd defriend and block the bitch.
ALittleMop · 24/05/2017 23:11

She's clearly an idiot.
You won't be able to make her understand what she's done and why it's not on. I'd not even try. There's no need, either, anyone who reads it will see what she's cackhandedly attempting.
I'd disengage/block/defriend on FB. I'd also say don't take any of it personally. She's drunk the MLM koolaid. None of it's intended as criticism. She sounds a bit desperate.

whatonearth21 · 24/05/2017 23:15

Her facebook and instagram is on steroids constantly about how amazing her life is then she's depressed out of nowhere and better in 48 hours.

The manchester bombings! Fuck what a sick thing to do.

She is always on about how this business enabled her to buy a house, a new car and a new 4x4. She is so blessed for that.

I havent asked but i think this business just enabled her to obtain more credit. I assume she has a mortgage on a house that size and has payments to make on the vehicles. In which case she will find herself up shit creek should she ever lose all her distributors which seems likely.

Companies should be banned like this.

Good point. Maybe the ship is sinking.

Dairymilkmuncher · 24/05/2017 23:18

Ummmm I NEED that miracle spring water.......

If it's possible to delete her do that, I bet you she will add you in a couple months again

There is a girl that I didn't get on with from being in primary three at school we were always in the same group of friends but never got on, never stayed in touch in RL or online then she joins one of these pyramid schemes and suddenly adds me on Facebook, she's been asking after my kids and liking everything which is obviously in her "business plan" yuck

acatcalledjohn · 24/05/2017 23:23

@TheMysteriousJackelope, is that for real? We know where got their inspiration from then...

Yes, the bombings. Loads of bots have used it. It makes me want to punch them in the face.

Oh god that s awful. I deleted a good friend off fb for a casual reference to depression like that. Delete her or at least unfollow her. Life is too short for reading that kind of inane spew

38cody · 24/05/2017 23:30

I had a fried who did this pyramid nonsense and she actually invited me over for drinks and a catch up and when I got there she had 5 other people there lured under the same false pretences to listen to her 'boss' give a sales pitch, prattling on about how he'd made millions!
I did ask why, since he made millions he was spending a wet wednesday night in my friends kitchen pitching so strangers. He got very angry and then evangelical - just wanting to spread and share his fortune etc,
I left and cut her out of my life - so good not to hear about 'the business' or 'the products' any more.
I met her recently (18 yrs on) at a mutual friends 50th party and funnily enough she's still in her council flat - I wonder why she didn't buy the big house and land she was working towards through 'the business', hmmm.
My advice is cut her out - they are brainwashed.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 24/05/2017 23:31

acatcalledJohn Completely real. I've seen another commercial for the same product and Peter Popoff on my TV here in the US Bible Belt. There are plenty of batshit adverts where I live, but nobody pays for a fake, joke advert to be broadcast on TV.
