to be a bit sick of the notion that we need to do things to ensure there is no division of muslim vs other?

I don't hear about these attacks and then go about the place attacking anyone dressed in Muslim attire?
Why does everyone feel the need to tell us NOT to hate the muslim community?
I see no evidence of anyone actually doing this.
It's quite insulting to be honest. As if, because one man has committed a heinous act I would go around abusing all Muslims.
Give us some credit.

Squirmy65ghyg Wed 24-May-17 20:22:08

Lots of people do.

MasuMara Wed 24-May-17 20:26:04

I would never do it. But it does happen. On the news there was a report of a Muslim shop owner who was spat at.

MsAwesomeDragon Wed 24-May-17 20:28:18

Where I live there have been Muslim women harassed on buses this week, so obviously some people do think like that.

PurpleDaisies Wed 24-May-17 20:28:31

Just because you're not seeing it doesn't mean it isn't happening. Our Muslim next door neighbours have been shouted at in front of their three little children. It's horrible.

Whiskwarrior Wed 24-May-17 20:28:46

You clearly don't read the news much then, OP.

There is always a spike in hate crimes after an attack like this.

I've seen some horrible stuff written by the friend of a friend today on Facebook. I've been engaged in spats with utterly horrible people on Twitter the past two days.

There are people who absolutely do behave like that. Just because you don't do it, others do.

missyB1 Wed 24-May-17 20:30:00

Never underestimate how many dickheads there are out there.

Ginorchoc Wed 24-May-17 20:31:47

A mosque has already been set fire to this week.

Jupitar Wed 24-May-17 20:31:58

3 friends have shared stuff on fb which is anti Muslim, was actually quite surprised at who shared this stuff and who told them to remove it. People reveal their true colours and times like this shock

Polkadot1974 Wed 24-May-17 20:33:25

Sadly people will and are spouting generalised hatred. Nobody I know but it's happening like others have said.

Whiskwarrior Wed 24-May-17 20:33:42

Yy and my ex SIL has 'liked' this horrible rant by her friend about Muslim terrorists. That's how I saw it. I'm shocked at her to be honest. She actually has Muslim friends, on Facebook. How must they bloody feel to see her liking stuff like that?

Mumchance Wed 24-May-17 20:36:29

Read the papers, OP.

Teatimebear Wed 24-May-17 20:37:00

What a shocking lack of critical thinking from the OP.

It's not insulting for people to say that discrimination is bad. If you feel that it is a personal insult, look at yourself.

SallyGinnamon Wed 24-May-17 20:41:48

There has been one or maybe two arson attacks on mosques in Manchester since the bombing.

myoriginal3 Wed 24-May-17 20:42:28

Maybe I have a nice bunch of FB friends, but nowhere have I seen anything like islamophobia.

Sarasue1967 Wed 24-May-17 20:42:36

Because it suits the interests of the hand wringing apologists.

Ladyvird135 Wed 24-May-17 20:46:00

'everyone' is not taking to you, as your are obviously an enlightened person embracing others. They are talking to millions of people who are scared, bigotted, 'not-racist-but...', and everything in between. They just might turn their prejudice in to action, such as setting fire to mosques, beating muslims, etc.

harderandharder2breathe Wed 24-May-17 20:46:05

Every time there's an attack, Muslim people report they get increased harassment.

Just because OP hasn't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I haven't seen it either but I believe that the people who are experiencing it know what's happening better than I do!

There's always ignorant racist twats spouting bullshit on social media as well.

histinyhandsarefrozen Wed 24-May-17 20:47:23

Just go on fb, put in something about the Manchester attack and you will be staggered at the amount of racists there are.

Toysaurus Wed 24-May-17 20:47:26

The bus I was on deliberately didn't stop to pick up a Muslim man this morning. I thought about complaining to First Bus but then it couldn't be proved definitively. His sneer when he looked at him said it all to me though.

gamerwidow Wed 24-May-17 20:48:02

I think you have a nice bunch of friends OP. I've seen people liking posts saying all muslims should be deported even if they've been born here (who knows where too?). Others have been liking far right groups and people like Tommy Robinson. Still more have said Islam should be banned. To be fair a lot of my timeline has also gone the other way and there has been a lot of positive posts about people of all religions and races pulling together. It's depressing though that these incidents always bring the racists out.

MagentaRocks Wed 24-May-17 20:48:35

Really? You haven't seen evidence of people blaming/hating/attacking the Muslim community after terrorist incidents? It happens.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/may/24/muslim-leaders-in-manchester-report-rise-in-islamophobic-incidents

A 30 second google.

Verbal abuse, assault, criminal damage, arson.

Whiskwarrior Wed 24-May-17 20:50:01

'Handwringing apologists'.

Or, as I prefer to think of myself, a decent human being.

MrsTerryPratchett Wed 24-May-17 20:50:05

Take a trip to Twitter, if you stomach it. Or the comments section of anything.

Although I go the other way and start gurning like a plonker at anyone who looks vaguely Muslim. I'd imagine they all think I'm very odd.

Everytimeref Wed 24-May-17 20:50:57

Toy. Think you should report the bus driver. That's not acceptable and we shouldn't ignore the small stuff or it will escalate.
