Bath towels - how many do normal people have?

What's a sane towel total? One per each, two, twenty? I'm purging the pit of despair that is the airing cupboard and I've found the motherload, towel-wise ... How many do l chuck? My mum never throws anything out until it actually disintegrates and my sister has two so l've got no basis for comparison ... Help?

We have about two actual bath towels per person, but there are also some other medium sized towels that mostly go to swimming lessons etc to reduce laundry-drying urgency. And hand towels to dry hands on after the loo etc.

DandelionAndBedrock · 22/05/2017 22:03

DP and I have one "nice" bath sheet each, and a set of 2 sheets and 2 towels that aren't as nice but do for emergencies. Generally I wash, tumble and replace. We live in a small flat and don't have space to store loads of towels, clean or dirty.

Crispbutty · 22/05/2017 22:03

I have far too many.

Can I ask anyone that you don't just throw them out though. Please give them to your local animal shelter. :)

SensitiveSoinSo · 22/05/2017 22:06

I have a mountain of bath sherts and bath towels.Blush
Way too many.

NoParticularPattern · 22/05/2017 22:07

I have gazillions of them so I'm no help unfortunately!! Blame having 4960000 people in my house at Christmas Blush

We only actually use four of them regularly though (there's two of us)

Zoflorabore · 22/05/2017 22:08

I have "snow towels" that are not to be used.
Swimming towels

Hand towels- lots
Bath towels/bath sheets- around 10-15.

We are a family of 4.

Moanyoldcow · 22/05/2017 22:09

3 'sets' which is a massive bath sheet each for me and DH, a hand towel and a matching bath mat. I have a separate set of 2 bath and 2 smaller for guests and DS has his own (3). That means 1 in the wash, 1 in use and 1 clean.

Zoflorabore · 22/05/2017 22:09

Haha not "snow towels"

"Show towels"

woodhill · 22/05/2017 22:09

Too many, they do sometimes become pet towels eventually.

BuzzKillington · 22/05/2017 22:11

I dread to think - we have a huge airing cupboard full.

When they go a bit off white - the dog gets them. He currently has at least 6.

BestZebbie · 22/05/2017 22:12

Zoflorabore: aww, I was hoping snow towels were super white and fluffy, like fresh snow.

Ameliablue · 22/05/2017 22:12

Dh and I each have two bath sheets that we use for showering/ baths. We have many beach towels though as the kids swim several times a week.

TathitiPete · 22/05/2017 22:12

Ooh, I don't know. We have about 30 for a family of four. Too many? I like having spares so I don't mind.

wrinkleseverywhere · 22/05/2017 22:12

2 bath towels per person plus two bath towels for each spare room. Technically guests could use the set we're not using but I don't like the idea of sharing towels despite them being washed. Having said that, I can overlook it in a hotel!
Beach towel each
I think that that is it!
Oh, 2x hand towels for each bathroom & the kitchen.

KindergartenKop · 22/05/2017 22:12

2 each for the adults (bath sheets)
6 which are kiddie/swimming towels.
4 old bath towels.
Hand towels X 34778

You've made me realise I need to have a clear out.

Did I mention posh towels?

Nonibaloni · 22/05/2017 22:16

All the towels!
Company towels
Show hand towels
Normal hand towels
Baby towels
Hair dye towels
Drying towels by preference (I like hard and scratch, DP soft and fluffy)
Swimming towels
Beach towels
Dog towels

I almost purge then someone gets a vomiting bug and they come into their own again.

Haffiana · 22/05/2017 22:17

I don't dare count but I hate trying to squeeze them into the linen press after washing as there are so many. AND I had a clear-out a year ago. Blush

Colacolaaddict · 22/05/2017 22:17

for 4 of us, 8 bath towels, of which 6 are bath sheets and the rest smaller, "normal"/medium towels.

Plus one each for swimming/holidays

Plus about 4 hand towels.

Plus ancient scaggy ones for when the washing machine breaks etc.

So, err, quite a few considering I thought we were pretty minimal :)

tissuesosoft · 22/05/2017 22:19

We have-
Two bath mats
Two hand towels
Two bath towels each (DD has 4)
I have 3 small towels I use for my hair (including one that I use for when I use hair dye)

Phalarope · 22/05/2017 22:20

2 per person.
1 scruffy swimming towel each.
3 nice guest ones.
Some hand towels.

This works well for us, BUT I did a big clearout of towels to get here...and then decided I wanted a homebirth for DC2 and had to go around cadging back the old towels I'd got rid of.

MinesaPinot · 22/05/2017 22:21

I had a clear out not overly long ago, and I think we're down to 3 bath sheets each, two nice bath towels for guests, 3 hand towels for the bathroom and a couple of microfibre towels which I use when I do my hair.

And a beach towel each. Actually that might be 2 beach towels each, as I can't remember if I got rid of the old ones.

All our old towels go to the vets about 4 doors along. They are always grateful.

UsedtobeFeckless · 22/05/2017 22:21

Not counting beach/swimming towels or the teeny-tiny hand towel jobbies ... ls two each and a couple of spares for visitors a nice and non-minging number?

One bath sheet each, one bath towel each, two hand towels, one bath mat. All bunged in tge wash every 5 days.

kitkatspiderrat · 22/05/2017 22:24

family of 4, around 18 sheets, 7 normal towels and about 10 stupid shitty things kids towels

DandelionAndBedrock · 22/05/2017 22:24

Are you ever going to use two at once? Are you ever going to use three at once? Assuming not, I think two is fine. You can always buy another if you find you need more.
