AIBU?

Are they BU? Shitty note taped onto dryer in communal laundry.

I live in accommodation with communal laundry. There are only 4 dryers and 5 washers for hundreds of flats (not sure exactly how many but I live at 396).

Tonight, three dryers were sat idle for >30mins. So I snapped and pulled some laundry out and put it on the surface nearby, then loaded my wet stuff up.

I came back to find this charming note taped to it: imgur.com/xmyWg5F

Who is BU?

I would have been pissed off with you too.

HoneyDragon · 22/05/2017 21:43

Had someone else thrown their clothes around from where you left them?

whatsthefuckingwrongwithyou · 22/05/2017 21:44

Nope, I think it's just bad use of language given the rest of the note.

I wouldn't have been pissed to find my stuff on the dryer. I would of my clothes were thrown around.

Auspiciouspanda · 22/05/2017 21:45

YANBU

When you use communal washing machines you set a bloody timer for when it's done.

HoneyDragon · 22/05/2017 21:45

Massive over reaction then.

PantPlot · 22/05/2017 21:45

That's just sums up everything that's the wrong in the world today

whatsthefuckingwrongwithyou · 22/05/2017 21:46

A similar thing happened months ago where I got another snippy note, along the lines of "you have no right to touch my clothes, you have to wait until I empty the machine".

OP posts:
Areyoufree · 22/05/2017 21:46

Nope. YANBU. It's always been accepted whenever I've lived somewhere with communal washers and dryers that if you are not back to collect your clothes at the end of the cycle, someone will take them out. As long as you put them somewhere clean, I don't see a problem.

BuckinghamLass · 22/05/2017 21:48

YANBU. I'd be tempted to correct the note's grammar, fight aggressive with passive-aggressive.

namechange20050 · 22/05/2017 21:48

I don't think you did anything wrong. Really selfish of the person to not free up the machine as soon as their stuff was done.

Siwdmae · 22/05/2017 21:48

Yanbu. You can't be expected to hang round like a fucking lemon til some idiot decides to empty the machine. Tough shit on them. One presumes you didn't play football with their clothes?

whatsthefuckingwrongwithyou · 22/05/2017 21:50

One presumes you didn't play football with their clothes?

I wish I had now.

OP posts:
TheClacksAreDown · 22/05/2017 21:50

Yanbu

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 22/05/2017 21:52

YANBU in the slightest, if you don't get back to your dryer for the time you know it finishes, you are accepting the risk someone will move your laundry out.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 22/05/2017 21:52

"WHAT'S THE FUCKING WRONG WITH YOU" would be enough on its own, but their attempt at a poo emoji makes it even better Grin

YANBU, OP. I don't miss student halls, the communal laundry could be a bloodbath Grin

TheGirlFromNoWhere · 22/05/2017 21:53

They actually drew a poo emoji on the note Confused
Immature weirdos. No ywnbu. They were being selfish!

CesareBorgiasUnicornMask · 22/05/2017 21:54

I thought that was what you were supposed to do in communal laundry rooms...Confused. As long as you didn't actually throw any clothes, I can't see an issue?

CesareBorgiasUnicornMask · 22/05/2017 21:55

But yes, 'WHAT'S THE FUCKING WRONG WITH YOU' may become my new insult of choice...

PantPlot · 22/05/2017 21:56

That bloody moment though when you realise the last two letters of the sentence are Not Going To Fit.

EweAreHere · 22/05/2017 21:58

You were not unreasonable.

The people who couldn't be bothered to move their clothes along in a timely manner were being unreasonable.

BoneyBackJefferson · 22/05/2017 21:59

YANBU, Its normal to remove clothes from the dryer if the owner hasn't had the decency to show up when they are finished.

I've lived in a block with that ratio of washing machines to people. It is utterly hideous and almost impossible to get washing done. Not clearing machines as soon as they are done is extremely selfish and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to have a go at that living situation and see how difficult it is just to get clothing clean.

DancingOnTheTable · 22/05/2017 22:01

When I lived in a similar apartment block (not in the uk though) there were posters all over the laundry room saying that clothes in the washer/dryer should not be left unattended and if they were and were not removed when the cycle finished other residents were free to remove the unattended clothes from the machine.

People would leave their laundry baskets on the floor in front of the machine so that other people could unload the machine and use it themselves and then leave the basket on the side to be collected, a lot of the time people would put wet clothes in the dryer or fold dry clothes into the baskets for other people.

BandeauSally · 22/05/2017 22:01

Grin @ "what's the fucking wrong with you"!!

Do you think they meant what's the fucking matter with you but got confused half way through?
