This sort of thing. I accept that the majority are well done and take a lot of effort, but to me it's just desecrating books...I'm a bit of a bibliophile.

The poor books😢 unless it's using up all the 50 shades clogging up charity shops then...

I don't understand what you do with them? Ugly as fuck and a waste of a book.

Moving that one is very impressive but it's still a waste of a book. I don't think you DO anything with them, they just gather dust as far as I can see. You can't move for them here.

I'd be appalled if someone gave me one. It's not that I don't recognise the talent but the poor books... Sad

Too much faff for something only the live, laugh and love brigade will find amazing, hun.

A charity shop did a book sculpture with the 100 copies of Fifty Shades of Grey! Actually if I remember from the BBC, it was more like a Fifty Shades of Grey house! 😂

They told everybody to stop donating copies of Fifty Shades of Grey!

Where on earth are you that you can't move for them? Never seen them before.

I die a little inside every time I see one of these monstrosities.

Poor books.

I'm in Sussex. Are they not a worldwide thing then? Phew. They just make me sad, those poor, poor books.

I'm a writer - if someone did that with my books, I'd be delighted and put it on display!

They creep me out for some reason. As do those pin art things. I have no idea why about the pin art. They never used to bother me.

No, it doesn't seem right to spoil a book like that.

Oh goodness the MN book snobbery again - are all books really amazing and need to be kept to be read forever and ever or is it possible that some books are unlikely to ever be read again and that if someone can get joy from them in other ways they should go right ahead without judgment and people looking down on them?

I'm not aware that anyone on here has been particularly snobby about it, nobody's said it's 'chavvy' or rubbish, but I love books, to me it's almost akin to ripping pages out. But I don't think I'm better or intellectually superior to anyone who makes or enjoys them.

I don't know. I love books but I'm not particularly sentimental about them. This is just a way to recycle, surely? I used to volunteer in a charity shop and was shocked to find out that they pulped a huge amount of books as they weren't able to shift them. This is preferable.

I wouldn't put one of these on display but I don't think there's anything intrinsically wrong with reusing a book in this fashion. To use the word 'desecrating' is a bit OTT. I highly doubt these are rare or valuable books.

They make me twitch but then I also get cross with people who bend the spine to far back, fold corners and write dedications in them (unless it's the author) an ex write in a book for my birthday and bothered me so much I replaced the book. Also don't like people who smoke over library books.
I may have issues...
