AIBU?

To dread going back to work?

I've been off for just over two weeks due to bad sickness. Currently 14 weeks but it has gotten no better, although I feel I can 'handle it' more.

I just feel like utter poo pretty much 24/7. I resent the work life now I know when I go back to work, it won't even cover both childcare and travel. Feels like I'll be working for nothing.

DH is keen for me to go back and doesn't feel comfortable with all the time off, even though I'm protected by maternity laws, although my mat leave may be impacted if I take any further time away.

I just feel shit and don't wish to feel shitter.

AIBU and should I get my arse into gear? I'm due back Monday Sad

Depends on the type of work. If you're at a desk and can get away with a quiet day then YABU and just need to get back in. If you're on your feet, etc, then you might need more time to feel better.

I had terrible hyperemesis throughout my pregnancy, I vomited 10+ times a day practically from conception. I was unemployed so didn't attempt to get a job as DPs job covered what we needed. There would have been no way I could possibly have done any sort of job anyway whether sitting down or on my feet as until about 24 weeks pregnant I could barely get out of bed to vomit and the slightest smell of cooking food or cigarettes or perfume would cause me to projectile vomit. Hopefully you will get better by the second trimester as most do, I was very unlucky. You need to talk to your DP as if when baby is here if it is going to cost you more than your salary to work because of childcare/transport it isn't worth it imo. Could you work from home? At least then you can do it while sitting by a bucket.

Meh, my job is mostly working at my desk, apart from running patient notes down to medical records, but sitting in front of a computer whilst you feel like you're on a very big boat is awful.

I don't believe I can work from home. Patient records can not be taken away from the hospital and my job is based a lot around that.

If you're really not up to it, don't go in. Can you arrange to work from home or do reduced hours till you're feeling better?

If I keep not going on, I'll be altering my maternity pay.

The head of management called me yesterday and wanted to know what was actually wrong, even though my line manager knew all this before going on holiday for a week. She's completely new to basic managment but didn't even know the maternity laws regarding appointment time.

Turns out she hadn't even recorded my absence as Maternity related! Agh.
