Bloody sick of it.

Come on HQ. Why not lock them, after a certain period, as suggested countless times before.

It's so annoying! Grrrr

I agree.

For example, that bloody pushy Tiffin parent thread has reappeared yet again. It's been going since 2007. That kid is probably at university now.

Yep. Or at least keep the zombie thread alert in the text box.

An alert in the title would help. It would save time reading through it to get to the text box point!

No, keep this thread here. It'll get more traffic.

There have been two only today that I've clicked on - and nearly had a heart attack seeing some of the NNs, before realising it was a zombie thread. Sad

I think there should be a warning in the title of posts over 6 months old so you don't even have to bother clicking them. Or maybe the first post could have a shadow outline image of a zombie behind the text or the background is changed to black with white writing. Something to alert the readers and not waste their time. The alert that it is old needs to be in the on the first post, the title AND the reply text box.

I agree. There should be a bloody great sign all around the text box saying. This thread was started in 2005 (Or whatever) are you sure you want to post?

And the OP should be in a different colour so I don't waste my time thinking about a house the OP wanted to buy 10 years ago.

I saw Maryz on a zombie thread today. Sad

:( I know.

Plus i hate stumbling across my previous self from 6 or 7 years ago. Feels weird! Grin

I always wonder what I was doing back then when I was posting. August 2013 was one from today, I was probably on holiday somewhere. Grin

What happened to maryz? We used to chat about our sons...

I think she just left wanna. She was great-all things teenagery. Smile

I'm just not going to engage with any more 'usernumbers'. I'm fully aware this will devastate them, but hey-ho.

Report
nauticant · 15/05/2017 15:42

That would be very numberist SumThucker. Also, your post itself is triggering.

Ahhh I was wondering why I kept reading threads and they were zombies, is it all the same person bringing them back to active?

Report
Wolfiefan · 15/05/2017 16:05

I clicked on one today and one of the first people to comment was Zombie herself. My stomach flipped and I will admit to being a bit bothered by it.
Miss her. Sad

People who go around bumping zombie threads won't notice or care about zombie warnings. They clearly have no idea how to use the forum or are doing it for fun anyway, so the only way to stop it from happening is to lock the threads after a certain time period.

I've also suggested this loads but it never happens.

Don't get me started on the 'lol's'.

Miss Zombie too SadGin

I met myself commenting on the grey hair thread.

HQ have been saying for ages that Tech are trying to sort out the user problem. They took away the ZOMBIE! message because it was apparently upsetting newbies but surely the answers are either locking threads or having a nice friendly message, both at the top and in the posting box, suggesting starting a fresh thread?

Newbies are just going to get more upset if they think they're doing the right thing & find themselves surrounded by a lot of pissed-off posters shouting ZOMBIE! at them.

Laiste · 15/05/2017 16:10

This is true whisk, but at least a good sprinkle of zombie warnings will enable readers to avoid them and they'll drop back out of sight.

I think it would be a shame to block threads altogether. Although i guess if someone had an update they could always just link to the blocked original.

And I keep seeing zombie threads with my older user names from years ago Shock

Report
Whiskwarrior · 15/05/2017 16:15

Maybe threads could be locked except to the OP? Although I'm not sure how they could do that.

Someone bumped a two year-old thread yesterday to have a really snidey pop at the OP. What an arse.

Upsetting? Really?! Surely even people new to MN can grasp the crassness of reanimating age old threads? And if they don't understand then it can't be that devastating a lesson to learn? Confused
