To be fucking sick of ginger hair comments?

My 2 DSs are both under school age and ever since their hair came in I get to hear comments on it from strangers. Sometimes its complimentary, other times it's tuff like "ooh he's going to hate his hair when he's older bless him" or "he's going to get picked on with that hair".

It doesn't ruin my day or anything, I just think "get some social skills you twat" while going 'mmm, really'. I am ginger for Christ's sake, so even if it goes over the boys' heads I can fucking understand it. When I was pregnant with DS1 SIL (who I like) said "oh DH, wouldn't it be funny if you two had a ginger kid? Oh no offense, BlurryFace."

I just feel sick of shrugging off ginger this, ginger that comments. I've been doing it for 20+ years, my own mother has said she thought it a shame I was ginger when I was born. I got all the ginger pubes (what other colour would my pubes be, dumb fuck?) comments at school, but everyone hated me anyway, it was just bonus ammo.

Next time I think I'm going to ask if the person who thinks my kids will hate their hair hate their own nose/jaw/body shape.

I myself am ginger too, and have a ginger daughter. And I'm fed up of the comments. What I don't understand is if somebody made comments about the colour of skin, that would be racist. But people continue to bully and put down the colour of ginger hair and it's just a joke or something to be laughed at? The very second anyone makes comments about my daughter when she's school age I'll be furious, and state the above fact very clearly. Sorry clearly it just winds me right up

My dd has gorgeous ginger hair and her teacher said" oh well I was ginger when I was a dc but it turned brown - maybe you will be that lucky too!!! "
She is proud of her hair and so am I!!

To be fucking sick of ginger hair comments?
IHeartKingThistle · 15/05/2017 14:06

I spend a lot of money to make my hair the perfect ginger! People are idiots. I bet your boys are gorgeous.

fannydaggerz · 15/05/2017 14:06

I LOVE red hair. I dye my hair red. A lot of my family are red as is my husband but my son has brown hair and I'm secretly upset as I had hoped he would have red hair.

Red hair is beautiful. Ignore any stupid comments.

MyheartbelongstoG · 15/05/2017 14:07

I prayed my children wouldn't be ginger.

Would never say that to anyone out loud in real life though.

GreatFuckability · 15/05/2017 14:07

I've never understood the issue with ginger hair. have you SEEN Damien Lewis???
My dd was very ginger as a baby and i was quite sad when it darkened tbh, i was really pretty!

emmyhNL · 15/05/2017 14:08

Completely agree with you. My Dsis said: "oh, your DD can only wear this dress for a little while as it'll look awful when she's ginger".

I don't particularly care about my hair. It's hair but I'm fed up of the comments too.

GreatFuckability · 15/05/2017 14:08

your dd has beautiful hair flapjacks!

petalsinthegarden · 15/05/2017 14:09

I don't have ginger hair but I've always thought it's so lovely.

I went to school with sisters who had the thickest, most beautiful ginger hair that I was always so jealous of!

ElspethFlashman · 15/05/2017 14:09

The UK is really really fucking wierd about red hair.

BillyButtfuck · 15/05/2017 14:09

Just your DD has beautiful hair.
One of my boys had a tinge of the ginge when he was born, it was lovely. His dad had bright red hair as a child and all his friends call him Gingie. I still call DS1 little ginge now and am a bit sad it's gone very blonde.

Sunnydaysrock · 15/05/2017 14:10

I just don't understand the 'ginger is bad' thing either. My DD has ginger-ish hair, and gets so many negative comments at school, year 8. I try to give her come backs, and build her up so that she is confident and proud of her looks, but she is still desperate to dye her hair. It's very sad and annoying, people need to grow up.

SnugglySnerd · 15/05/2017 14:10

My kids are red heads. I have to admit when I saw their hair colour I started to worry about bullying. It's a shame as they are beautiful children. People really do need to grow up.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/05/2017 14:10

Justmade- your dds hair!! It is absolutely lovely, stunning. I hoped for a red-head baby but sadly mine don't have it. (Red is in the family, but I don't have it either). My dds and I all sigh with envy when we see red hair. What could be more beautiful?

BillyButtfuck · 15/05/2017 14:13

It's the adults making these comments who cause bullying in children, no one is born stereotyping and being prejudice about hair colour/ skin colour / weight, they pick it up from parents / teachers.

Such a shame

Radishal · 15/05/2017 14:13

I prayed my daughter wouldn't be blonde and even asked the doc before she came out.
People are stupid. Me included, obviously.

FeckinTerrified · 15/05/2017 14:13

Come to north wales....plenty red heaads at my kids school and nobody has ever made anh comment whatsoever! I think of it as a southern issue.

Ollivander84 · 15/05/2017 14:13

I'm not only a red head - I have bloody curls too Grin that was fun at school

Maudlinmaud · 15/05/2017 14:15

Ginger, red, strawberry blonde are all beautiful colours and I've always thought and said so. I can totally understand your anger, yes call people out and ask them to explain to their comments. I don't understand why people think it's ok.
Just your daughters hair is fab!

soapboxqueen · 15/05/2017 14:15

I live in a family of redheads. Only ever had positive comments about dd and ds's hair. I can imagine if negative comments happened regularly it would be very tiring.

BillSykesDog · 15/05/2017 14:16

It's a hangover of anti-Celtic feeling in England. Trufax.

MissBax · 15/05/2017 14:17

My OH has ginger hair and I'm pregnant at the moment. Loads of people are like "dya think it'll be ginger?" I'm like what bloody difference does it make? I wouldn't ask someone with brunette hair if they think their child's hair will be brown. I just don't get it at all?!?!

I remember sitting in an airport one day listening to a group of women discussing how if they ever had a ginger baby they'd drown it a birth - horrible.

Not sure if they'd seen me with my ginger hair sitting at the next table......

At school it was also acceptable for teachers to make jokes about my hair.

I've never understood the issue with red/ginger hair.

APaperMe · 15/05/2017 14:18

I've only ever had positive comments about my 6 yr old dd2s ginger hair, You must live in a very rude area!

stitchglitched · 15/05/2017 14:19

My DD has red curls. We only ever get positive comments about her, but I did hear some lads at the bus stop the other day mocking gingers as 'evil'. I scowled at them and turned the buggy round so they could see DD and they went bright red and shut up. It's bloody rude. My DD's hair is gorgeous!
