to ask you for a small loan?

I've seen a house I really want to buy!

If 675,000 Mumsnetters could just lend me a pound for, say, 6 months, I'd be sorted Grin. That would give me enough time to get my house up to scratch for selling.

Or just 135,000 of you lend me a fiver?

Please, please, please oh please! Am good for the money, promise.

YABU for not providing a link. Would like to see what my money is contributing towards Grin

Oh it's just a little terraced house in London. If I linked it we'd get the usual "shit the bed, you are MAD to live there".

Also, the vendors would think there was loads of interest in the house and wouldn't accept my reasonable offer Grin.

But I've been looking for years and this one really is perfect even though it was grossly dirty in a peculiar way. A mum and her teen dd living there, hardly any belongings or furniture, but really sticky and grubby.

I still HEART it tho'

You can certainly ask, please feel free to ask at any time. I would be mortified if you felt you couldn't ask me.

Of course, it's a no.

Link to one in the same street, then. A non scuzzy one...

I'm in...set up a justgiving page and post the house here.

I'd totally give £1 to a just giving page for that. No point in all of us being miserable, we might as well make one MNer happy

Apparently MN had 850,000 active users in 2009 - anyone got a more up to date stat? Not impossible..

I'll give you a pound. How do i do it?

You need a sob story and a just giving page op. A relative of mine has made thousands towards her uni fees.

Do we get to impose our ideas on interior decor on you afterwards?

I think 850,000 users was a generous guestimate in 2009!

I started a thread about it once, hang on I'll have a look.

I imagine there's still fewer than 1,000,000 registered users on the site - you just need to find a newbie and ask them their registration number.

I thought it was balls too, but if you trust the Telegraph (and Carrie Grin):

“Our parents are people they (politicians) need to win over,” says Carrie Longton, co-founder of the site, which boasts 850,000 regular users. “They’re opinion formers and early adopters.”

Yes but at least 849,950 of those were trolls.

I'm waiting for MNHQ to post their normal 'not everyone is who they seem on the internet' warning on this thread. 😋

If I had a pound for everyone who ever asked for a pound, I'd be a wealthy person. Can't afford it love, sorry. Perhaps you should ask your MP to fund proper affordable housing. Grin

And 800,000 of those accounts were operated by Jeff in his bedroom in his pants Grin

Ha ha! Yes, I was permanently questioning those figures bandied about by HQ in the run up to the election.

So I started a thread asking any newbies to tell me their registration number.

I've just found it and someone who joined in July 2009 was user no. 174,173.

So, they were being a bit misleading with the truth at the time!

I wouldn't be surprised if there were 850,000 users now though, although of course an awful lot of people (including me) re-registered after Jeffrey. So it's still not quite accurate.

I would repay you all! I promise I would sit there and make 650,000 refunds, although the bank might not like it Grin.

I would buy the house tomorrow if I could. Just the small issue of decluttering, decorating, marketing and selling this one standing in the way. Sad.
