I've seen a house I really want to buy!

If 675,000 Mumsnetters could just lend me a pound for, say, 6 months, I'd be sorted grin. That would give me enough time to get my house up to scratch for selling.

Or just 135,000 of you lend me a fiver?

Please, please, please oh please! Am good for the money, promise.

Pics or it ain't real...

EZA15 Fri 12-May-17 18:37:07

YABU for not providing a link. Would like to see what my money is contributing towards grin

bibbitybobbityyhat Fri 12-May-17 18:43:14

Oh it's just a little terraced house in London. If I linked it we'd get the usual "shit the bed, you are MAD to live there".

Also, the vendors would think there was loads of interest in the house and wouldn't accept my reasonable offer grin.

But I've been looking for years and this one really is perfect even though it was grossly dirty in a peculiar way. A mum and her teen dd living there, hardly any belongings or furniture, but really sticky and grubby.

I still HEART it tho'

You can certainly ask, please feel free to ask at any time. I would be mortified if you felt you couldn't ask me.

Of course, it's a no.

Floggingmolly Fri 12-May-17 18:48:22

Link to one in the same street, then. A non scuzzy one...

Scribblegirl Fri 12-May-17 18:49:43

I'll send you a quid

and then cancel the cheque

theaveragewife Fri 12-May-17 18:49:59

I'm in...set up a justgiving page and post the house here.

haveacupoftea Fri 12-May-17 18:51:06

I'd totally give £1 to a just giving page for that. No point in all of us being miserable, we might as well make one MNer happy

Scribblegirl Fri 12-May-17 18:53:34

Apparently MN had 850,000 active users in 2009 - anyone got a more up to date stat? Not impossible..

onlyconnect Fri 12-May-17 18:57:34

I'll give you a pound. How do i do it?

JennyOnAPlate Fri 12-May-17 19:00:17

You need a sob story and a just giving page op. A relative of mine has made thousands towards her uni fees.

TaraCarter Fri 12-May-17 19:01:43

Do we get to impose our ideas on interior decor on you afterwards?

bibbitybobbityyhat Fri 12-May-17 19:01:47

I think 850,000 users was a generous guestimate in 2009!

I started a thread about it once, hang on I'll have a look.

I imagine there's still fewer than 1,000,000 registered users on the site - you just need to find a newbie and ask them their registration number.

Scribblegirl Fri 12-May-17 19:04:39

I thought it was balls too, but if you trust the Telegraph (and Carrie grin):

“Our parents are people they (politicians) need to win over,” says Carrie Longton, co-founder of the site, which boasts 850,000 regular users. “They’re opinion formers and early adopters.”

DeeDooDee Fri 12-May-17 19:08:35

Yes but at least 849,950 of those were trolls.

I'm waiting for MNHQ to post their normal 'not everyone is who they seem on the internet' warning on this thread. 😋

Elendon Fri 12-May-17 19:08:40

If I had a pound for everyone who ever asked for a pound, I'd be a wealthy person. Can't afford it love, sorry. Perhaps you should ask your MP to fund proper affordable housing. grin

Scribblegirl Fri 12-May-17 19:11:29

yes but at least 849,950 of those were trolls

And 800,000 of those accounts were operated by Jeff in his bedroom in his pants grin

bibbitybobbityyhat Fri 12-May-17 19:17:09

Ha ha! Yes, I was permanently questioning those figures bandied about by HQ in the run up to the election.

So I started a thread asking any newbies to tell me their registration number.

I've just found it and someone who joined in July 2009 was user no. 174,173.

So, they were being <ahem> a bit misleading with the truth at the time!

I wouldn't be surprised if there were 850,000 users now though, although of course an awful lot of people (including me) re-registered after Jeffrey. So it's still not quite accurate.

Trifleorbust Fri 12-May-17 19:17:28

I'd give you a pound. What the hell.

PerspicaciaTick Fri 12-May-17 19:17:33

Less than 1 million of us...

StealthPolarBear Fri 12-May-17 19:22:05

I'll do it op grin

bibbitybobbityyhat Fri 12-May-17 19:23:13

I would repay you all! I promise I would sit there and make 650,000 refunds, although the bank might not like it grin.

I would buy the house tomorrow if I could. Just the small issue of decluttering, decorating, marketing and selling this one standing in the way. sad.

Scribblegirl Fri 12-May-17 19:23:35

MNHQ lying to us?! shock

I don't know what to believe in any more. And that's my excuse for opening the gin.

bibbitybobbityyhat Fri 12-May-17 19:28:08

It would make a great news story though!

Thanks everyone. I think I've been pledged £5 so far, you are lovely flowers.
