Ok, I know the general gist that Conservatives look after the rich and punish the poor and Labour are fairer to the underdog and the poorer.

Apart from this though I don't know much about politics.
I have voted in the past, but local elections Labour will always win, so my vote doesn't change anything, iyswim.
In GE if I've been bothered to vote I just voted labour.

I look at which would be better for us, but there isn't a party that's better than the other.
So looking towards society in general which party is best to vote for and why?
I don't just mean what they say in a manifesto or campaign as we all know that politicians are a lying set of bastards. I mean more widely iyswim.

I am voting labour because of their stance on education. Children are the future of this country and they deserve better than tory school cuts and extortionate tuition fees.

It is not as simple as one party being better the country than the other as such. There are many different views and schools of thought on how best to run a country/economy etc.

I would recommend making a list of what really matters to you, maybe the top 5 or 6 things? For each of these things think about how you think policies for this should be formed in your opinion?

Once you have identified these, you can look at which party has the closest alignment with your beliefs. Try to identify any red lines for you, so if a party would do X then I wouldn't vote for them.

I'm voting labour, because i have friends who are nurses who are going to leave the profession if tories get in again. My kids school has had to make 6 teachers redundant and have to send begging letters that the parents for funds. And lastly because we seriously need to renationalise the trains, utilities, prisons and whatever else we are paying subsidies for when private companies are running them making a profit.

The most important to me are a party who will make big companies pay their tax. A good NHS and education.

However, even though I'll never be conservative, selfishly I'd like to be able to afford the small amount of school fees we pay.
We are low income and my dd has an assisted place. If they tax school fees like labour intend to do, then my dd won't be able to attend her school. Are they talking about people who have lots of money already or anyone paying fees?

I am voting Labour because I care about people. I walk around and see many homeless on the streets, my children's education suffering due to cuts, the NHS struggling while my nurse friends are working to the bone on shit money, two income families still struggling to make ends meet thanks to extortionate rents (i am down south) while the richest's wealth have increased, tax cuts to big cooperations while they are screwing people over on 0 hour contracts...i could go on tbh.

I hope for better for my children, for my country. Labour imo, is the best shot at that.

Yes there is truth in this under the current leadership.

Until all of the manifestos are out (not leaked drafts) with full costings then we don't know really what we are voting for.

You can promise the moon on a stick as a party, BUT you have to have it fully and realistically costed.

I know that they were looking at the possibility of introducing VAT to private school fees previously, however, I don't think this is a current policy, however, I could be wrong.

It was the Labour party who downgraded the assisted places scheme enormously whilst they were last in power - so fewer children are now able to avail of the opportunity your DC currently has.

To add to my earlier comments about tuition fees, I believe that the Conservatives intend to keep them, the Greens would scrap them and UKIP would get rid of for some key subjects only.

I haven't heard anything about the Lib Dems current stance that I can recall.

Given out crappy electoral system, a lot will depend on where you live. About half of the seats (so over 300) in the UK will 100% guaranteed go to the current incumbent party. If you live in one of these but don't support that party, your vote will be a total waste.

If the 3 most important things to you are making large companies pay tax, the NHS and education then you need to vote for anyone other than the tories. But surely you must have known this already? The tories have decimated the NHS, so many service in my area are now run by private companies (even when the NHS themselves bid for the work and were often cheaper!). And how much have the recent school budget cuts been in the news?

Interesting to know the Scottish experience. I went to uni in England pre-tuition fees and , compared to now, it felt like a massive engine of social mobility. Our family didn't have much, I got a full grant. There were fewer places and I got there on merit from a very ordinary Northern comprehensive. I got housing benefit and unemployment benefit. Unbelievable, I know.
Now, the tuition fees and debt alone would put me off.

^ While this is sadly often very true, I would still urge everyone to still go out and vote, even if you are voting against a very "safe seat".

The electoral system in this country needs revising (IMO) and the more people that vote helps to show how rubbish the current system is at actually representing the actual views and feeling of the country.

Do you want the NHS? If so, vote Labour.

Do you loathe poor people and think they all deserve to die, but feel it would be a social faux pas to say so? If so, vote for anyone else and stop Labour getting in.

Before you vote based on who is going to remove university tuition fees take a look at how Scotland universities are struggling due to lack of funding because of this.

Of the three local seats here which have been strongly Labour, the majority in all was reduced in 2015 and two of them are likely to go Tory this time.
