Does anyone want to but a last minute holiday from me?
Posting here for traffic. I have messed up and didn't realise that ds 5's passport runs out next week. 1 week to renew.

Holiday is with Thomspon. Family life hotel.
Leaving 15th May for 1 week. 2 adults and 2 children.
Location is perfect for children - Majorca Coma Gran

www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/europe/spain/majorca/sa-coma/apartments/tui-family-life-coma-gran.html

I bought for £1,400, but would sell for £1,000

Or can anyone think what else I can do?

Can you not renew his passport in the 1 day thing?

You can renew a passport in a day, costs a bit more but can be done.

And also it won't cost more than what you'd lose on the holiday iyswim

Are you sure? They do one day first time passports for kids (I got one for DS) so surely they would do renewals as well.

I think you can still get it fast tracked friends realised their son's passport ran out recently and the dad went to an appointment at the passport office (had to go to one quite far away) and the passport was back within a week.

I got one day renewals for my DC last year after we booked a spur of the moment ski holiday. Maybe the service has been changed?

Ring the passport office for advice.

My friend had to renew her DD's after turning up at check in to find there wasn't enough time on it. They flew out 5 days later with new passport, so it can be done.

just spoke to passport agency - they won't do day renewels for under 16 year olds. Looks like I'm having to write off £1,400

Phone your local passport office and get an appointment. It was around 5 years ago but I'm sure I filled out all the papaerwork online and printed it off, I took that along with his pictures to my appointment I then had to kill a few hours in Glasgow, went back at the time I was given and his passport was ready. Phone and double check but I'm sure a renewal can also be done.

Did you explain the situation? Maybe one a little further away from you might do the one day service?

Report
Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 14:28

nope rita - no ones do!

Ask if the one week service can be done quicker, perhaps if you can drop the docs in and collect passport in person, rather than wait for the post.

Send your DH off with one child, and fly out on a no frills flight with DS once you have passport?

For example, 2 seats on Easyjet from Gatwick on Weds night is less than £100.

I sent ds passport for renewal on Friday and got it back yesterday morning so if I were you just sent it and fly out later, the turnaround should be pretty quick?

Although you have to do the one week service it often comes back well before the week is finished. Might be worth a go.

I've done the one-week service as I was asked away with 2 weeks notice, passport came back in 3 days so I'd order it and hope for the best - and as PP said you can always fly out later

Can you not claim on your holiday insurance?
