AIBU?

AIBU to wear a dress over leggings for disneyland?

Basically I'm overweight (currently a size 22) and heading to disneyland with the DC in the summer. It will be hot, we will be walking lots and obviously climbing on and off rides.

my plan was to wear leggings (thick, proper, cant see through them leggings) and a just above knee length dress over the top - this will be comfy and i thought would mean that i could climb on and off rides etc not worrying what the skirt of the dress does as i have leggings on underneath.

DH has just said that surely it will still look like my dress has blown up and i'm showing my arse off to everyone when getting on and off rides.

so who is right? Am I techincally wearing a long top (dress) over leggings (as trousers) so no issue if you can see my legging-covered arse/crotch getting on and off rides. or is DH right that it will look like a dress and tights and therefore indecent!

at my size leggings without a dress for wandering around would look awful and i will be too hot in jeans and obviously longer skirts/dresses wouldnt be practical. HELP please!!

Your DH needs to keep quiet- your body, your clothes, your choice what you wear.

Wear what you want! But it sound good to me, maybe try the outfit out on a hot day before you go to make sure your comfy in it.

Leggings with a long top/dress isn't indecent. Indecent would be a bra and knickers whilst on the teacups.

He wasnt being unkind, just knows how self conscious I am and doesnt want me to feel embarrassed. I am not the best judge of clothing choices to be fair, hence why i'm doubting and asking here!

Sounds very hot.
What about shorts, boden do them in larger sizes and they are fantastic comfy. Check the Richmond short.

i think that sounds fine....nothing at all wrong with a nice dress and leggings.

I wear that a lot in the summer, my only proviso is that the hem of the dress MUST be nearer my knees than my arse!

It's very practical and also pretty esp if you go capri/knee length with the leggings if you are confident to flash an ankle.

I think it will look fine but won't you be really hot? You walk miles in Disneyland, am not sure I would be wanting to wear thick leggings in the summer.

Would shorts with a t-shirt/vest top not be cooler and more practical for getting on/off rides. I don't mean short shorts, more like knee length ones.

I don't think anyone takes much notice at Disney, it sounds fine, I hope you have a great time.

Sounds sensible

In summer I wear anti rub pants - can't think of the proper name but they stop your thighs from rubbing. Mine are sloggi and come in black or nude - like bike shorts.

I think that's fine but also, if too hot in jeans and don't want to wear dresses, what about linen trousers ? They helped me out when I was overweight

Sounds fine! or linen 3/4 trousers with a top that covers your bum is what my mum does (size 18)

i cant do shorts, i have a small waist (comparatively), its my hips and thighs that are huge so shorts look awful and i get terrible chub-rub if the crotch doesnt fit right up IYSWIM? and if i wear 3/4 leggings they tend to ride up and sit above my calf/just below the knee hence wearing long ones.

I'd say you could be very hot in the leggings - would you not just go dress only - really if the dresses are knee length, you'll be fine. I've never found dresses revealing anything getting on and off rides. Or wear shorts ? I wouldn't need worry, there are all shapes and sizes in the Parks.

If you are concerned about your weight - you could drop one or two dress sizes if you put your mind to it before then.

I'm a size 20 and have done Disney a few times. Last year I wore shorts and t-shirts or cotton trousers and a t-shirt or shirt. My legs are the slimmest part of me so I don't feel too bad in shorts.

The only thing I would worry about with the leggings/dress combo would be that you would feel quite hot.

There will be people much much bigger than you wearing shorts or trousers. And you will never see these people again so sod everyone else and wear what YOU feel most comfortable in.

Cotton trousers (long and loose or cropped) worn with a long top would be cooler and more comfortable!
It was hot when I was there and I would have found leggings far too uncomfortable

I think you should try the boden shorts before you spend summer sweating in leggings

Or a maxi dress?

nowthereistwo i have some of those 'comfort shorts' for under my long skirts, they are a life saver. but wouldnt work for the 'protecting my modesty' of getting on and off rides, some of which are a big step up or down.

will have a look at linen trousers too, thanks for that suggestion!

Is this Florida? If so believe me, everyone will be dressed for the heat and comfort and nobody will bat an eyelid at anything you wear.
I wore a lot of ethnic print A line (long) type sleeveless tops and cropped leggings most days or kaftan style tops in rich colours. They pack up to nothing and are comfortable and I felt fine (size 14/16)
Make sure you have comfortable shoes, and have a fab time!

Definitely make sure leggings aren't black or dark coloured I'm a similar size and went last year wardrobe of dark leggings and long tops and almost got heat exhaustion it was so warm. Perhaps linen trousers light coloured (3/4 length) and long best tops?

Ok if you can't do shorts then linen or cotton trousers and a long loose comfy shirt or t-shirt.

dilly i am on my way back down after the birth of my last DC last year but i have too far to go to get back to comfortable in shorts before we go - my thighs are always big, even when i was smaller!

dont want to spend too much as hopefully will only need this size for this year. will look at boden.

I would wear the pants that stop the rubbing and a voluminous light fabric maxi skirt and then a little too. It will be so hot you will be clawing the leggings off!!

Do you mean Paris or Florida?
