AIBU?

AIBU to just want my appliances to leave me alone?

I've recently moved from an old house with not so up to date appliances to a new build where everything is brand spanking new. It's nice to have modern appliances that work - but it feels like everything is just constantly beeping at me!

Microwave: beeps for a full minute after it's done.
Washing machine: plays a kind of beepy tune when it's done, and repeats beeping noises until I open the door.
Tumble dryer: beeps when done. Beeps at regular intervals until I intervene.

The dishwasher is my only ally but that's because I tend to put it on in the evening and I can't hear the beeping from the other end of the house! I know it's still beeping at me though.

I'm sure there are more; just can't think of the less annoying ones at the moment.

This is lighthearted, mainly - but honestly sometimes I feel like it's driving me insane! DD is 9 months and has recently learned the power of crying to get what she wants.
Also we have two cats who make noises at me incessantly until I drop what I'm doing and see to their needs. I've got enough going on. AIBU to feel that additional nagging by my household appliances is just a bridge too far?! Angry

Don't get me started! Our kettle beeps so loud we have to make tea on the stove if someone is sleeping!

Washing machine will go on forever, so the same problem.

It's maddening - MY LAUNDRY FINISHING IS NOT AN EMERGENCY!

I have a thing about getting to the microwave before it does its second set of beeping!

Many, many years ago a thread on MN made me realise there's a way to deprogrammed all this beeping. Life changing stuff. Google the make and model and you'll get the instructions of how to turn all the bloody tunes off

My coffee machine makes amazing coffee, but every time I try, it tells me to 'empty the waste', 'clean the pipework', 'fill the water container', 'descale me' etc etc. It's easier to make instant.

It annoys me when I'm putting stuff in the fridge after shopping and it starts beeping at me! There have been a few times when the door hasn't closed properly and I've been grateful for it though.

Our tumble dryer beeps incessantly and does spurts of spinning even once it is done until you open the door. It is in what was an outdoor loo and I can hear it from inside!

I disabled my washing machine's beeper recently. Took approx 2 mins including googling and watching the YouTube video telling me how to do it.

My tumble drier is so old it doesn't beep.

My AEG dishwasher beeps just once when it is done, but seems satisfied with that and doesn't continue to tell me for no reason.

I feel your pain. We moved from an old cottage to a house with brand spanking new appliances. I had no idea everything beeped now. I feel like I'm constantly being told to jump to it.

Surely your DH comes running to alleviate the pain the machines are experiencing and save you from your tuneless misery?

My mums washing machine beeps a good two or three minutes before the door unlocks, it's so frustrating! Nobody needs a warning that their laundry is almost finished!

Mine doesn't beep it just sort of clicks to say the door is unlocked which i much prefer!

My dishwasher beeps too. I hate all of it.

Another one here saying Google how to disable the bleeps. It's liberating!

I hate hate hate this. My microwave beeps at me if I close the door and have left any knob left turned to a setting. What possible catastrophe could happen if I had forgotten to begin microwaving!?
My appliances all shout at me which is what my children are for unfortunately the instructions only allow me to reduce the length or lower volume not turn the noise off completely.

The washing machine we inherited when we moved into this house plays a very jolly tune when it's finished. I quite like it. But I HATE the fact it beeps as I spin the dial through all the programme options. It's totally unnecessary and just plain attention seeking.

My (fairly modern) washing machine only beeps once, then if you don't attend to it, it turns all it's lights off and pretends it was never on. This means I sometimes realise, quite some time later, that I've missed the beep and the clothes are starting to get mouldy. I wouldn't mind a few more beeps...

YA so NBU. If it's not kids or pets nagging for attention it's the appliances. Drives me out of my tree.

my washing machine is very passive-aggressive and plays a jaunty tune at me when it's finished. tinkly little fucker.

Report
PickAChew · 09/05/2017 21:59

I found out how to turn down the beeping on my washer. The dryer plays a tune and has various other beeps, but, even though it's easy to switch off, I leave it on anyhow because the anticrease function makes it growl every few seconds, anyhow.

The beeper on my oven is long since knackered.

PickAChew · 09/05/2017 22:01

edwin you need one of these. The only beeping is me when I'm so groggy I pour muesli into it or something equally daft.

I had a new kitchen fitted recently and every appliance now beeps. I also have the tumble dryer that does the extra spin thing every so often, until you open the door.

By far the most annoying thing is my hob. It's a Neff induction and beeps loudly every time you change the heat or switch it on or off. Despite googling, we cannot find a way to stop it Confused

Oh hell yes

The microwave that won't stop beeping until you have opened the door
The tumble dryer that will turn once continuously until you open door or turn off
The washing machine that does at least half a dozen long beeps, when finished
