AIBU?

Half a stone in 4 weeks?

missb00 · 08/05/2017 08:23

Can I ask for your tips on how to achieve this please?! I'm going away in 3 weeks and 6 days and am sitting about a stone over where I'd like to be, however shifting 7lb would make me feel much more comfortable. I'm 5'5 and currently 11st 4lb, so not unachievable!

P.s. I know crash dieting is bad and i'll put it all back on again when I get back, but lets ignore that for a moment.

Get on the MyFitnessPal app, set your target toosibg 2lbs a week and your activity level to 'sedentary', and then stick to eating as many calories as it tells you - probably 1200. You can easily drop 7lbs in that time if it stick to it. And help yourself out by ditching bread and alcohol for that period too, it will make the weight loss faster.

Slimfast shake diet? Sickly sweet but always seems to give a quick loss in the first week but so do most diets. At its heart it really just is calorie counting though to 1360 cals a day.

Try and contract tonsillitis. I had it two summers ago and lost over a stone in a week.

Thanks all!

Shatters good thinking, less effort than calorie counting too 😉

I know slimming world gets some stick on mumsnet but I lost 5lb in my first week.

For me this would be achievable as I usually lose about 5-6lbs the first week (all fluid I am sure) so it gives me incentive to continue. For me I'd stick to 1,000 calories a day, drink 2 litres of water, lots of veg, no bread, now white carbs (brown rice, wholewheat pasta etc) no treats. I lost 7.5 stone from 2012, 6 stone in first year, 1.5 second year and have maintained it since. I stick to 1,200 5 days a week with two days at about 2,000 (wine mainly!!) but if I've had a holiday and need to get back on track I do the 1,000 per day.

Sorry NO white carbs, I should mention I did NO exercise due to disability so my weight loss had to be calorie reduction.

I have been following a 12 week low carb, medium protein, high fat plan. The fats are the good ones - coconut oil, olive oil. It is supposed to be a lifestyle change rather than a diet. In my first week I lost 10lbs and so far (just starting week 8) I have lost a total of 1st 12lbs. Weight loss has obviously been slower after the first week, but I'm doing this for the long term weight loss and health benefits, so that's fine. I signed up with a guy on facebook who runs a health and fitness programme supplying quite specific food plans for weight loss and live streamed workouts, but I think it is really a hybrid of paleo/Banting.

You need to aim to lose 2lb a week to be on track which is do-able. Stick to a daily calorie limit of between 1200-1600 calories a day (depending how active you are), and try and get some exercise in each day.

If you can cut out white carbs and sugar, you will be fine, I think. I have done this in the past, and lost a stone in about 6 weeks or so (from a starting position of having one stone to lose to get to a BMI of about 23). Replace with a large variety of protein and veg, limit your fruit and dairy too if possible.

I need to do this again.

I think it's doable as a one off type of things. I'd do MyFitnessPal but I'd start at quite a low calorie straight away. Usually if I have to budge a few pounds I start with an introductory week where I let myself get used to a diet. IYSWIM.

Look at Diet Doctor website. Low carb but lots of vegetables and 'real' food - a very nice healthy and effective diet.

MyFitnessPal for 1200 calories per day and walking for an hour each evening. I'd also do a home core exercise routine - I like rotating planks with Russian twists to quickly target abs [Let me know if you want me to share the whole routine, it takes about 15 minutes; you can do it twice a day if you have the time]

If you can spare 20 minutes a day, Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is brilliant and it's usually free on Youtube. It shrinks a few inches off everywhere.

Low carbing, 3 litres of water a day and regular exercise and you'll do it no problem

This is perfectly doable - when I was dieting I generally aimed to lose at about that rate and, if I stuck to it, always acheived that or better. I think calorie counting is your best bet. I know other people are suggesting other diets but I think they're the sort of thing that work for some people and not for others so, if you haven't done it before, I wouldn't think now is the best time to start.

You need to have a deficiency of 7000 calories a week- so 1000 cals a day? Walking a mile burns off about 100 calories, depending on weight. It's doable.

Thanks everyone! I think it's doable, just need to cut out my evening treat which is where I struggle most!

PNGirl, will take a look at that, is it like a HIIT type workout?

The blood sugar diet is great for fast weight loss.

I would definitely try MyFitnessPal as it will help you realise just what you are eating. I have gone from 71kg to 65kg in six weeks and it hasn't even felt like dieting.
