AIBU?

To not want a garden full of shit? (Pic included)

Everyday for the last couple of weeks we've found shit in the garden. I've got a 1 and 3 year old and it's so frustrating not being able to let them out without scouring the grass for poo. Can anyone identify the animal? I assume cat. Any ideas how to kill stop it coming in?

Hmm not a shit expert Grin but it looks more like dog, is your garden easily accessed? Cats tend to go somewhere where they can dig and cover it, eg flowerbeds. Not all do I suppose.

NoSquirrels · 30/04/2017 10:22

Would be a pretty large cat - have you seen any likely culprits? I'd say dog too, if your garden is accessible- any neighbours with dogs who could get in (but you'd probably have noticed?)

Iwannasnack · 30/04/2017 10:22

Yes I also thought it looked like dog but we've never had either. Garden is surrounded by fence and or bushes. Neighbours either side don't have animals but think someone at the back has a dog...

I know you said pic included but I didn't think the shit was literal!

NoSquirrels · 30/04/2017 10:23

If cat, though, buy a sonic scarer - emits a high pitched noise they don't like, so they'll go elsewhere.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 30/04/2017 10:23

Looks like fox to me.

YouTheCat · 30/04/2017 10:24

Cats bury their shit. That's either a dog or a fox.

scaryteacher · 30/04/2017 10:25

Dog or Fox. Way too big for cat....I clean litter trays daily, and in 25 years of cat slavery, have never seen one that big.

CRbear · 30/04/2017 10:25

Fox!

EllaHen · 30/04/2017 10:25

Some people let their dogs out at night, presumably to shit somewhere they don't have to pick it up.

It would take a confident cat to shit in the middle of a lawn and not cover it up.

Also, it looks too large to be from a cat.

ChickenBhuna · 30/04/2017 10:25

Looks like fox poo.

Asmoto · 30/04/2017 10:27

Definitely fox poo. My parents had a vixen raising her cubs in their garden a couple of years ago, and there was lots of similar poo.

It's not a cat - cats don't usually do more than two 'logs' at once.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 30/04/2017 10:28

The bastard car that shits in my garden certainly doesn't bury it!

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 30/04/2017 10:28

But yeah, that's dog or fox poop

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 30/04/2017 10:29

Please don't buy a sonic scarer. I'm 36 and can still hear the noise they emit. It feels like being stabbed in the head. Just awful. Can kids not hear them too?

And yes, dog shit.

LaundryQueenHatesBunfights · 30/04/2017 10:29

I agree, cats bury their poo, also wouldn't expect a cat poo to be that big unless it was a cheetah!

A fox once strolled into my garden and looked me in the eye while he shat on my lawn. It looked similar to that, similar to cat poo.

CadleCrap · 30/04/2017 10:30

Cats don't always bury their shit. Mine used to crap all over the lawn.

RedBugMug · 30/04/2017 10:30

looks like fox.
but yanbu to be annoyed.

you can try sprinkling herbs and spices around the bases of the bushes. and maintain fences as well as possibly. but keep in mind that foxes can easily climb a 6ft fence...

scottgirl · 30/04/2017 10:30

Contech Scarecrow. It's a motion activated water spray, totally totally amazing. We move house a lot (renters) and it has transformed gardens from cat toilets to lush spaces.

RedBugMug · 30/04/2017 10:31

cat poo is more 'torpedo' shaped and not dog turd shaped

BlossomCat · 30/04/2017 10:31

Another vote for fox poo here. Many years ago we left my boy's Bob the Builder hard hat out overnight, and in the morning there was a perfect coil of fox poo on the top.

They also used to choose our garden to die in. We buried two in three years..

isupposeitsverynice · 30/04/2017 10:32

Looks like dog to me and big dog at that but I suppose there's no scale. I thought foxes did quite small poos like cats?

Wish someone would tell the cat that keeps shitting in my garden to bury it.

That's fox poop btw

NorthernLurker · 30/04/2017 10:32

Cats don't poo like that. As a cat owner I am familiar Wink and I'm really fed up of cats being blamed for foxes disgusting behaviour.

daisychain01 · 30/04/2017 10:33

The way to tell if it's fox scat, especially if freshly laid is that it smells really strong - they are 'in the wild' so scent is important to them for all sorts of reasons.
