To be annoyed in Poundland?

Ok, first of all, I know Poundland now often sell stuff that's more than £1, which is annoying in itself. But today I was walking round and, in the middle of a normal display, were a lot of leggings. They had prices on the actual packaging of £5/£6 but they weren't Poundland branded and it looked like when you get stock from other shops being sold off cheaply. It wasn't a brand I recognised but the prices were also in Euro so I thought it was maybe from an Irish shop, you know the sort of thing I mean? Anyway I have definitely bought stuff before that was priced on the packaging but was only £1 (very very common with boxes of cereal etc).

However it went through the till at £6, and when I expressed surprise and said I didn't want them at that price (as it's not even especially cheap!) the woman said that I was the second person to do that today. But she seemed very surprised that I would think they would be £1 "because it says it on the packet". But they weren't Poundland branded and they weren't at the edge of the store where the other higher priced stuff is either. I didn't kick off or anything but I did think if they're going to randomly put higher priced stuff around the shop then what's the bloody point of it being Poundland?

She did say she'd tell the manager to make sure it was labelled more clearly, so I must have got my point across.

Item labelled £6 cost £6. Call trading standards.

I guarantee you that every single time you go into Poundland there will be stuff labelled at a higher price that is actually £1. Multiple things. It's very common.

It does generally annoy me that they sell higher priced items because as you say it's supposed to be pound land. I know what you mean, it's a discount shop so you would expect other stock to be sold at discount prices

I hate Poundland for this. Their things should be a pound. I go in there because I can fill a basket without having to think about how much each item costs, because it's only a pound. They have pricier bits by the till and don't even advertise the price of a lot of it I hate it.

Meh, you already said that you know lots of stuff in there costs over £1. Why would you be surprised just because the display was in a different part of the shop. I wouldn't have expected leggings to only cost £1 anyway.

Yes it's annoying and they should change their name to something like 'Cheap Tat Interspersed With Incredible Bargains Like 2x Radox For £1 Land' - but in the meantime you might have to vote with your feet!

I think it's that as it's labelled on the packet, it means it's been produced and priced for Poundland, at six bloody pounds, which isn't really a bargain (same as Primark etc) and not what you've gone in there for. Time was when that was the sort of random bargain you could pick up in there and feel pleased about! No more.

I'm with you, Key it's bloody annoying. There are loads of items with a RRP price printed on them which are a pound.
That's the beauty of the Poundshop; everything's a pound!

And actually, even the higher priced stuff I would expect to be marked down, because that's the point of the shop! So maybe if they were reduced to £4, it wouldn't be so annoying.

I don't go into Poundland, but I believe I read somewhere that they're offering this as alternative in the brand to encourage a wider selection of choice. Therefore, the majority of items are indeed £1, but they have more expensive items so that they're not put out by competition.

Similarly, to how a place like Tesco went from being a food supermarket to selling cheap dvds, leading to the fall of places like Woolworths and HMV.

I did get a nice white underwired bra in there once for £1.
When I went back, the shop had repriced them at £5, so even the staff don't know what's going on!

Poundshops are luring us in under false pretences... Grin

Poundland recently started selling a range of clothes branded Pep & Co. They want to compete with supermarkets. The items cost more than a pound but they had a fair bit of publicity before the launch of the range so I don't see the issue.

I made the mistake of telling my little niece she could choose anything in Poundland she wanted.

We walked into aisle 2 to find they'd filled it to the rafters with more expensive toys for Christmas. [sigh]

They're sold stuff for more than a £1 for quite a few years now.

As an aside. The owners were on how do you get so rich a few weeks back. They've made millions.

I didn't know poundland had started selling pep & Co, I like their stuff for DD but both of my nearest towns already have a pep & Co so maybe that's why poundland round here doesn't stock it. I've picked up a blu ray in poundland before and they tried to charge me £5 for it even though there was nothing to say it was more, and it was on the shelf with all the £1 dvds. I didn't buy it, I think it's a bit of a con.

I love Poundland! I've noticed this recently though, so it must be a thing. They're creeping things in as manager's specials and whatnot which are usually a lot more than a pound - usually £5 or something!
I mean, why? The clue's in the name. It's POUNDland! No wonder people are getting peed off - you expect everything to be a pound in there.

I didn't even know they sold things for more than £1 - I think they should change their name because it's misleading ... that should cost them Grin

I bought 5 items and it came to £4. I pointed out the error and apparently 2 of the items were only 50p. Confused

My dh bought a paw patrol bowling game for the kids the other day in there. £1 bargain. Looked online at the entertainer. Exact same game and packaging, £7.50! I think a lot of shops take the mick. Glad he bought it from poundland and not the toy shop. I know complete opposite but had ti get it off my chest! :)

Jolly, that sort of thing used to happen all the time! Exactly why I thought I'd stumbled across a little treasure trove of cheap leggings.

This seriously pisses me off-the clue is in the title of your shop Poundland. Twats Hmm

Pep and co is a brand from the store guess how much which has merged with Poundland.

So you support sweatshops. Nice. How much did you need the leggings?

It should have been marked properly. This annoys me too. It's called Poundland because the stock is £1!! I don't think they should sell stuff that isn't £1!

...That sounds like the only reason I wouldn't is for shame of getting caught Hmm
