AIBU?

To think that it's okay to leave my DS in the car?

DS is 12. Shoot me if you like but I regularly leave him in the car outside petrol stations or when I go into a shop.

The way I see it is that he gets the bus home from school by himself, I sometimes leave him at home if I go to the local shops, send him to the shop for me, he also walks the dog with friends. Yet apparently I shouldn't leave him in the car outside a shop!Hmm

AIBU?

I'm confused he is twelve. People talk about not leaving younger children in a car. Or am I picking you up wrong?

What does she think is going to happen? I think he can probably hold off letting the handbrake off and can open a window or door if he needs too!

Just don't lock him in with the alarm set like my mum did to me Grin I had to play statues until she got back so the bloody thing didn't go off

You're doing it all wrong. My dd is 12. I stay in the car and send her into the shop.

12? I leave my 6 year old in the car when I pay for petrol or run into the nursery to pick up his wee sister.

Good idea 💡Grin

Actually, the other day I went in the car to drop DS off somewhere not intending to get out so wearing a scruffy t shirt, pj bottoms and DH's huge walking boots, only to discover half way down the road that we were running very low on petrol. I filled up but sent DS in to the shop to pay so as not to expose my choice of clothing. Definitely the way forward!

Victorious Wink You may just want to check it's ok with your MIL first though, you know, in case you get kidnapped from the car or something.

I assume you are talking about under a minute or so. Not a problem in my view.

Is she worried he is going to hot wire the car and ram raid the shop?
